Wow, that looks really interesting Hitaxas. Perhaps try making the black shadow a little lighter. Definitely a vast improvement though, well done.

The spikes look nice (and almost CG-like), but it would have been easier to make simple 3D models, and it might have looked even a little better.

I think hqx4 wins here... Yours doesn't even look like grass anymore, even with real grass plastered over it. The shape was completely lost, and the lower shading looks way too artificial... I can't say I like it in the least, sorry.

Is there really nobody able to CG in here? I think we're really needing it now.

I don't think running a crappy photoshop filter and texturing it is going to handle our level art to an adequate extent. It needs to be stylistically recreated—higher-resolution material representing the original features of the environment, whilst at the same time not taking away from the original feel of the level.

For example:

Make sense? The art isn't exactly the same, but it's instantly recognizable as the same style and area.

Ouch! Add the proper coloured green to those 'spikes' please - perhaps try to blend it in a bit more too, instead of it looking like another image pasted on top of the grass.

Btw, 3d grass onto a 2D image in that fashion kinda doesn't work, sorry.

*edit* what Tweaker said.

Not bad Jimmy, but I still think we need to match the level of texture-detail to the HD concept I posted earlier.

Tweaker hit it right on the button. The grassy texture looks like crap compared to all of the other art that has been done. Make it something new while still trying to retain the old style feeling.

Okay, I'm sorry, but... what? "Not bad?"

I know you're trying to be encouraging, but, uh... for fucks sake, have some backbone! If we want this to have the best quality possible, then we NEED the best quality possible. Both of those examples are half-assed ugly pieces of shit and shouldn't even be considered for the final product.

As I stated above, we need to stylistically redesign the levels, not run them through Super2xsai and fucking jack off all over them.

FUCKING STOP

And while you're at it, stop ripping off my fucking avatar. I had a hard enough time getting Marc to let me use it.

Relax. I explained what was needed for it to be improved, I want to see what people can come up with. If you just get rude with them they'll say "bah screw it" and won't produce anything. Better something not too good than nothing at all.

Oh, and I made this item box, but it's a bit cartoonish I think. If you guys don't like it, I'll probably stop :\

I seriously disagree.

But if that's what you think, I can just take a picture of a huge wad of shit and superimpose it all over the original level art with inverted colors. Hey, it's better than nothing at all!

It's a start, but for one thing putting the shadow OVER the grass is a bad idea. It doesn't look right -- what's casting it?
I also really don't like the ground texture. It doesn't look good at all.

Perhaps more inspiration could come from this?
