Oh ffffff, I forgot to mention that, I password protected it to make it harder for Sega to track it down.
Problem is, I also forgot the password -.-
Try "SONIC" in all capital letters.

As a kid before I started listening to music properly (e.g. Mp3 players and CD's) I remember very fondly playing sonic 2 just to hear pieces like Oil Ocean and Chemical Plant Zone. If I'm going to be honest, Sonic 2's Soundtrack and my dad constantly playing Pixies and Aphex Twin are probably what helped me transition into loving music like I do nowadays. This compilation will bring back a lot of memories and although I can listen to versions on youtube, nothings better than getting a CD and blasting out of my living room speakers.

My point exactly. If you want more people to have easier access to used copies in the future, when they decide to stop printing the album... Buy it. And for god sakes don't buy bootlegs. I'm already having a nightmare trying to find the original release of Sonic Adventure OST without having to break the bank or end up with another fake copy. I should have got that when it was inprint.

On that note, how long are these things usually in print?

Couple years at the most, if it doesn't sell well. For the Adventure albums it might have been 5 years, but somehow not enough were produced because of the amount of bootleg manufactures and how the market for it was even smaller back than. If it turns out to a hot mainstream seller (like for example the Space Jam album that has 14 tracks and R&B crap) it can be a decade or more which is extremely unlikely. Got to remember it's a niche market even in Japan, so it might only be a couple of years and the 20th Anniversary markings could say it's a special release if found on the package.

  7. Yeah, I spent way more than I should have on my copy of SA's soundtrack, but it was brand new and had everything with it.

I never understand this, Sonic is way more popular internationally than in Japan altough the CD industry here as deader than Mighty being a playable character in a future Sonic game.

I can't believe I forgot to mention a slight difference with certain additions made by the sound team that are absent in Aquatic Ruin's Demo:

In Masa's Demo at :26, the "piano rundown" isn't there and there are no triplets at :35 in either the melody or bass line. It seems like small melodic differences were ok, as long as they weren't as extreme as Casino Night's axed changes.

I sorta noticed something listening to the demo of chemical plant...

Doesn't the lead instrument sound like it should be an electric guitar instead of the mute trumpet? Maybe they picked the trumpet cause it was closer to Masa's instrument than the electric guitar (genesis electric guitar is pretty bad) but... yeah.

that would mean Jun's version in Generations is closer than the genesis one to the demo version (from what we've heard of it at least :P). he has guitar where the mute trumpet is, and synth where the synth is.

I think I understand what you're hearing. The counter melody in Masa's Demo sounds like the lead(melody) instrument in Modern Chemical Plant, right?

If you are talking about the melody starting at 0:16 in Masa's Chemical plant, that is a midi saxophone. It is also used in the chorus of Hill Top just after the mute trumpet.

You know, electric guitar sound bad in this quality midi too. It isn't just the Genesis having problem with that.

I don't know if anyone has posted speed corrected versions of the Sonic 2 Demos yet, so apologies in advance if someone already has. I mainly did this for my own personal listening use but hey, why not share? :) I tried to get each track as close as it's Genesis/Mega Drive counterpart as I could. Below is a link to download the RAR archive and the file is hosted by my Comcast Online Storage. Let me know what you guys think. It's good or it's sucks. All comments welcome.

Also, a big thanks to Ashram for the rip! :D

According to this page (the Dreams Come True official English website), apparently this will be released in the US as well:

    http://www.dctjoy.com/dreamscometrue/discography/misc-sonicthehedgehog-soundtrack.php

Here's the little excerpt from the page:

Everyone knows Sonic the Hedgehog, the well-known character from the Sega videogame series of the same name as well as Sega's UFO Catcher popular in Japan. But did you know that the game music from Sonic the Hedgehog 1 & 2 was composed by Masato Nakamura? This highly anticipated soundtrack is now available in Japan! (And will be coming soon to the US!)

  17. Skeptical, but a US release might actually introduce more people to Sonic's soundtracks, and the games by proxy.
