Where did the idea that this game would be getting any DLC come from, again?

Casino Night is an unlockable that's already in the disc, for anybody who was going to reply with that. =P

Basically this, really. We've heard nothing, from past history we shouldn't expect anything either. Sega right now will be working on the next mainstream title, not Generations DLC.

Unleashed and 2006 had DLC.

And neither had completely new stages. I want this as much as you guys, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Well they had new acts and I'll take that too. Only one act per stage per character is ridiculous

Didn't Generationa sell better than 2006/Unleashed? That's a good reason to assume there'd be DLC, but this long after release without any news, it is seeming less and less likely.

^ Seeing as how Sega has said nothing on DLC so far, I'd rather hear a "we're working on it" then nothing. Least working on it gives promise to something in the future.

Honestly I want them to avoid Sonic and Knuckles levels since both Mushroom Hill and Sky Sanctuary have already been represented, and IMO S&K's levels are the weaker of S3K. We need more pure Sonic 3 representation, since they have seemingly ignored it entirely with the exception of the Big Arm fight.

That is what I meant. When people talk about their DLC ideas, it gets me disappointed when I see there HAS NOT been word from Sega, the word I would like to hear.

By now it is clear there is no DLC. The game's structure doesn't seem open to it and SEGA appears to just be happy to be done with it.

Didn't DarioFF say there was room for DLC though? Maybe I'm remembering him wrong, but I'm pretty sure that, when asked if new stages could be made for Sonic Generations, he replied that theoretically, new stages could be plopped into DLC spots. If he was right (and I'm remembering him right!), I'm still not holding out hope for brand new stages.

Well, at least there's mods. Not quite the same but still keeps me happy.

IIRC didn't Unleashed hold out on DLC announcements until March? Both games came out in November.

EDIT: http://www.destructo...ly-124809.phtml

Yep, Unleashed DLC wasn't heard of until around March 13 2009. We still have not yet reached that threshold. I'd say hold out for a bit.

EDIT 2: Oh and just incase, Sonic Unleashed came out November 18 2008, Sonic Generations came out November 1 2011. So while Generations came out earlier, the DLC more likely leads to original levels due to the nature of the game. We'll see though

I don't recall saying anything like it. :v:

I don't think DLC for Generations is coming. I'm gonna throw a baseless speculation, but I could be easily wrong.

If anyone remembers about the high quality global illumination data I was talking about in the resources thread from the DLC for Unleashed, the headers for these files were actually in the disc already. Now, this could just mean they used in development the high quality version and just downsampled it, and promised to release it later in DLC... but given how much junk object data I keep seeing of other paths and layouts that don't even match the stage, I'm starting to think the DLC was just developed in that period before the game released, when they had to do all the CGI rendering for the intro, the movie and stuff.

What I'm trying to say is, I think there's clear evidence that Unleashed (and probably 06 IIRC from the info on the wiki) had DLC pre-planned and developed already. I haven't seen any clues in Generations about it, and the Casino Night DLC was obviously on-disc anyway.

Well Unleashed at one point released a patch prepping the game up for DLC. The DLC was not on disc since it was so fucking big. Sonic 06 had on disc DLC unlocked by a key file.

Yes, they did, which I am fully aware of. However:

Ding ding ding, we have a winner. THIS is what I was referring to - people here are throwing entirely new zones around when this has never ever been done before. Realistically the absolute best you could get would be some new missions - you are not going to get new levels, which is what I'd count as actual substantial DLC.

I assumed we'd be getting DLC due to the fact Big's VA confirmed on Twitter that he'd recorded lines for the game. I thought Big would be the "buddy" character for the DLC stage. Seems odd they give Big, Omega and Jet statues in the game without considering they were part of the game at some point. If that isn't the case, why didn't Storm and Wave get statues too?

^ There bitches to a bitch character. Hell there was no werehog statue either. Or Tikal or E-102. And let's not get into the fact that they could have made classic variants for 5 other characters in the game. Decisions were made

The reason we believe that this game might receive new zones is due to the nature of the game. Generations is a celebration of Sonic's history, and of course they couldn't cover everything, so they may go back and add new stuff. The game leaves itself open for the possibility.

And even if we don't get new levels entirely I think there's a decent chance we might get new acts. Generations was odd since unlike Unleashed which had about 3 unique acts per character (small as they were) and Colors which had 6 acts per level (Probably about 2 or 3 unique sets of level geometry though, just reused in different way), Generations has 2 acts and a bunch of cheesy little challenge missions that reuse the same geometry. They've done things to make these challenges fresh, but a full act and 5 missions based off that same act is kind of overkill, any more and it just wouldn't be worth it.

And while new levels has never been done before the only other realistic example we have is Sonic Unleashed. 06 doesn't count, it's DLC was handled differently due to the fact that the game came out when DLC was still a new concept and the standard HDs would not have worked well with entirely new levels (Unleashed raped my 20GB HD).
