Sonic All Stars Racing 3 Possibly Leaked?

Why aren't there any Generations mods for SSASRT? I had a lot of fun with it and the tracks look phenomenal.

If it really is happening, it'd be the perfect timing to include Wreck-it Ralph again, since the sequel is coming out this year. :v:

 

[RUMOR] Next Sumo-Sega kart game to be mainly/exclusively focused on Sonic characters via ResetERA & Sonic Stadium

It's worth noting that this a strong rumour corroborated by two sources - this dude on Sonic Stadium that has been legit/genuine on leaks in the past (leaked Sonic Forces stuff) and a high-up person on ResetERA has been hinting and reiterating the same thing (Daniel Ahmed also know as ZhugeEX) - so it's looking extremely likely this is the new Sonic racer from Sumo probably set to be announced next month at SXSW. This would also explain Aaron shooting down another Sega all-stars game - technically he was actually telling the truth (and probably trying to manage expectations) if this rumour is correct.

So not sure how I feel about this one. Another Sonic racer from Sumo (who are legendary at these) is excellent news, but why deviate from something so popular and successful with the Sega legacy and just focus on Sonic? Mixed emotions, but that might be change once we see the game, which again is highly likely to be unveiled at SXSW.

So a new Sonic racing game after all. And by the sounds of it in direct challenge to Mario Kart. Thoughts everyone?

EDIT: Also that toy manufacturer leaked this too, meaning three sources here and Sumo is definitely working on a new kart racer - so this game is very probably real.

 

Now that Nintendo has started adding characters from outside the Mario universe, having a Sonic-centric kart racer feels like a bad move.

Very good point - and yeah the general reaction in that ResetERA thread is negativity and disappointment to this revelation, as in most would have preferred a new Sega all-stars game. I do agree. Feels like a regression and one that doesn't make much sense given the previous games' acclaim and popularity. One thing that's important to note - ZhugeEX (who supposedly has knowledge of this) heavily hinted on ResetERA that people wouldn't be disappointed once they see the game so there is that.

And yeah I was thinking this is a typical Sega move that could have been pushed by Sonic Team/Iizuka. Seems like a symptom of their serious efforts to re-launch Sonic - their own legacy be damned.

 

Then again I vaguely remember Taxman swearing he is NOT working on a Sonic game or anything else associated with Sega just couple of months before the Mania unveil. Maybe they don't want to reveal ASR3 yet.

 

Looks like there's another toy company claiming that a Sonic racer is a thing. Pull quote from the article:

This is definitely one of Sega's big announcements for SXSW. Wonder what the feedback will be when it's shown because thus far the response seems to be mass disappointment. Guess that could change.

 

Fully Sonic kart racing is probably a better move than another "all-stars-but-more-like-some-stars-plus-whoever-else". I hope they keep the transforming vehicles though.

 

I'm kind of ok with the idea of fully Sonic Kart. At this point I'd rather them fully explore what they can do with Sonic tropes instead of another "Oh look here's that one guy from that one game plus the first level of said game, rinse and repeat."

I like Sega's other franchises too but the fun ones aren't being used in any meaningful way these days. Ya you could argue the same with Nintendo and Smash Bros but out of all those characters the only one in a similar boat to virtually all of the ASRT cast is like, Captain Falcon. The rest still have life. Sega's old franchises are basically ghosts at this point. I just hope that if there's DLC it doesn't get as weird as it did with ASRT (what the hell was going on there? Team Fortress guys, Yogcast, and Soviet tank?). Ideally this could be some kind of Mario/Sonic kart racer which would prune out some of the inevitable awful characters from both series (Hi Pink Gold Peach, Baby Rosalina, and I'm guessing Dark Chao and Infinite), but then that'd result in the game being Switch Exclusive and I don't have one of those.

 

Excellent points - and yeah I'm somewhat excited to see what Sumo can pull off with a Sonic racer given the exceptional quality of their previous work and the potential this game has (Studiopolis track anyone?).

From the "insider" rumours I've heard primarily on ResetERA people that have seen it said it's really good and I do believe that given how excellent Sumo are at these. Looking forward to SXSW.

So during the latest Sonic live-stream, at around the ~7.50 minute mark in this video Aaron apparently teased and said --

-- That serious news and a potential unveil of the new Sonic Racing game is coming very soon, potentially this week or next (though I'm guessing there) - but soon! Presumably before E3. Excited for this one. Hope it's as feasibly close to a spiritual sequel to Sonic R as possible - and the usage of the "R" from Sonic R was more than just a marketing ploy.

Sumo's developing so it's at least in good hands and will therefore likely be a very good game like the All-Stars games. We'll see soon.
