Where and how did you grab these SFX?

Edit: What I mean to be asking is, how did you grab these from the extracted game files? I seem to be getting stuck and being unsure of how to further the extraction. Especially of files from the demo.

Edit2: -- People from X-Cult managed to do this, as well as some character swaps, anyone mind sharing how they did that?

I converted the .xma files from the game disk into .wav files using a simple, ".bat-drag-and-drop" program. However, to find the .xma files within a disk, you will need to dump the entire game first.

The Speed Shoes BGM is just an early MIDI version of what appears in the final as the Invincibility theme. For whatever reason, they just decided against or never got around to making two distinctively separate jingles.

The Results BGM is simply the acoustic guitar loop used in that pre-finalized instrumental version of His World.

Whipped up a quick comparison MP3, with the solo guitar layered on top half way through.

I'm personally leaning towards both being nothing more than filler - which is amusing considering that His World ended up being reworked slightly, iirc without the acoustic guitar, resulting in it being completely unused in the final game. Please correct me if I'm mistaken.

Link did that!

He was an awesome dude I remember those discussions vividly esp. when the rainbow gem was first shown to the world. too bad he has dropped off the face of the earth...

But Yeah, heres the topics that he was doing his own STH2006 research:
http://forums.x-cult...e-hedgehog-x360
http://forums.x-cult...-next-re-rollup

Maybe the past can awnser some of your own current questions.

I did read these topics--'tis where I got the .arc unpacker/repacker, however I have no idea how to edit the files that it unpacks :P

Apologies for the double post--

http://info.sonicret...ehog_%282006%29 Mentions that there are 'unlockable characters'.

[quote]Characters

Amy Rose: Successfully complete all Soleana mystery missions with an "S" rank.
Blaze the Cat: Successfully complete all Soleana mystery missions.
E-123 Omega: Successfully complete all GUN Commander missions with an "S" rank.
Knuckles the Echidna: Successfully complete all Town Stage missions with an "S" rank.
Miles "Tails" Prower: Successfully complete all Town Stage missions.
Rouge the Bat: Successfully complete all GUN Commander missions.

Looking on Google,
http://www.cheatcc.c...ml#.Tp86ubKyCsw talks about free mode. As someone who completed the game on the Xbox 360 at 100%--Either I'm blind, or you can't unlock these characters. Anyone care to elaborate? o.o

Hard to say. The icons and the respective achievements match the descriptions there, but this is one of those cases where this could be stemmed from assumptions on achievement pictures. By that logic, though, Elise would have been playable upon collecting all the gold medals. Princess stages every stage.

Kill me now.

Some people say that this would've allowed to replay all levels and missions from the hub itself. But most say that it allows you to play all levels with all the amigo characters.
I'm however not sure if SEGA actually planned some sort of "Free Mode" or if it's only a fan made creation.

I did find a video in YouTube which the user calls this glitch/bug/easter egg as "Free Mode".

You can see if you move the left analog stick down and hold A + Start, the hub changes a bit and you see Knuckles and Tails standing in the middle with people cheering. Going to one of them allows you to control them.
I didn't try this yet but this could be quite interesting if someone could try this.

What I understood about Free Mode was that it would allow you to play through the levels without the plot influencing them, like going through Sonic's Dusty Desert/Tropical Jungle without carrying Elise or not having a time limit in Radical Train.

This isn't free mode-this is a mission you do, oddly the game reloads and switches characters for you when you complete your objective, but you can go back and do what it shows in the video. On Shadow's motorcycle mission in New Soleana, after you talk to the man and he tells you your mission, you can control Shadow for a split second, and you're in the right starting spot. The camera even shifts as well. However, the game reloads everything after though.

I've had this happen to me with Silver before except the mission never loaded and I just fucked around Soleanna before talking to the mission giver again. The mission started after that.

Yes, you're right. I just tried this myself. Pressing all these buttons makes you move a little away from the guy so that you don't automatically talk and can move freely around. You don't have to finish the mission, just choosing this in the Main Menu is enough.
I think it's possible to do this in all city missions with any hedgehog, but "The Legend of the Three Musketeers" is the most interesting because Tails and Knuckles stand behind you.
It seems like Sonic Team just took the same ones from Flame Core and White Acropolis. That's why it looks like Tails or Knuckles talk and you can move them around.

Interesting to note, when you attack with Knuckles or Tails, some people actually cringe like if you've hit them with Sonic.
