Sonic Mania (Switch, PS4, Xbox One, PC...Netflix?)

    Looks amazing, I will buy it for sure, it's beautiful... Yep, that's great. :thumbsup:

    But is it bad if I, deep down, wanted the art to be "HD"? :ohdear:
     
  3. How on Earth did they finally convince Sega to let them make a new 2D game, and the 25th anniversary game on top of that? Looks beautiful, guys!
    My only comment is the spin dash ball changes direction, and flipping the lighting looks odd. But I love the modernized classic art style with that smooth animation.

    It's sad that so many people seem to not be as thrilled about this as us older fans though. It's been a long time since Sonic has had a good 2D game, that a lot of people have only been raised on the 3D series of games. This is why we can't have nice things...

    Nice! Looks like Sonic 4 done right - the kind of Sonic game we could have gotten on 32X or Saturn.

    The Green Hill Zone remix looks a bit fan-gamey, but the new level looks great. TV Studio is a level theme that hasn't been done before! I hope the rest of the new levels are this creative (and I'd like for at least 6 Zones to be all-new).

    I wonder if the remixed levels will be part of the normal game progression, or if they'll be unlockable or a separate mode altogether.

    The drop dash looks like a simple and unobtrusive addition to to Sonic's move set. I wouldn't want to see anything else added though, except for Sonic 3 style shield abilities.

    What's the Daytona USA reference?

    Holy shit, this is real? I feel like this is the "real" Sonic 4 that I've been waiting years for... This is like, a fucking miracle. How the fuck did SEGA decide to do this? Did they get a change in management or something? The 2010 SEGA would have never agreed to do this.

    Honestly, this just looks plain incredible and I'm at a loss for words. We are FINALLY getting a true follow-up to Sonic 3 & Knuckles!

    there is a truck version of the hornet. There is also a Sonic Popcorn reference, and a mega drive powerlight reference.

    I totally fucking knew it!! I was SOOO obvious. The moment I saw the level of quality concerning art direction and music on that Dropdead website, I basically expected this...

    The Archie comic MEGA DRIVE. It was so obvious...

    BUT

    I never expected it to be this fucking GRAND!

    This is EXACTLY WHAT I've BEEN ASKING FOR...

    I'm glad Retro is excited about this. I was beginning to loose hope in the Sonic fan base there. But then people also wanted Shadow the Hedgehog back in the day :P

    Can't wait to play this game, I love classic Sonic

    lol check this out, the background for Green Hill Zone is actually redrawn, but they intentionally kept an error in it:

    Except this time they actually fixed it - the gap has several pixels that make it up now and they cycle with the palette. So what was originally just a placement error has become a small river down the mountain.

    LOL awesome attention to detail.

    This is practically a retro Sonic fan's wet dream. Aside from the physics and level-design being handled by Taxman and the Megamix team, those 32x-esque graphics really seal the deal for me.
