Can the hacks only have one level done, or does the entire game have to be hacked?

Crystal Meth Trophy - most potential replayability.. by potential I'm realizing most hacks entered are incomplete and thus I'm going on the stuff already in there that would make it replayable as a fully finished game =)

I guess that comment implies that hacks don't need to be complete to be entered.

Hmm...I wonder if Sawnik will be in a relatively decent state by that time...if not, I guess I could always go for the "1337!!!" trophy XD

Well, since our hacks have recently merged... We should have something presentable by september =D

Good point there, we'll just have to do what we can by then XD

I think I'll have something to hand in by then.

Although the best I will even hope for is the Worst Hack trophy. Not that I mind. XD

EDIT

Oh holy crap I'm tired, I didn't even realise how old this topic was. Sorry. =x

It's pinned for a reason, so don't worry that it's old =P

Just one question.

Pallette hacks not alowed, fair enough, completely understandable.

However, what about Pallette/Layout Hacks? I may not be proficent in any other specific areas but chances are I'll have completely redesigned Sonic 2's layouts in that time.

Or is that still too basic?

Well, dunno. Don't expect it getting many prizes, but if the new gameplay is good I bet it's likely that it'll be accepted.

Yes, as long as something more than just the palettes are modified, its fine.

I don't think that "random character in Sonic 1" (being it just a sprite hack) is gonna be accepted =P I guess there needs to be a level hack or it won't be accepted.

Every hack will be accepted, as far as I know; whether or not it will actually win anything is a different story entirely, of course.

Cool. Well I actually enjoy editting layouts so I should have a completed Sonic 2 layout/pallette hack by then.

Like you said, probs wont win anything...but should be enjoyable :v:

Character map modification by itself won't be accepted either, first of all. I'll add that to the rules. Palette hack + layout without art changes? Fine by me =) As long as there's a new level layout, that's where the line is drawn. If it's a technical hack and it has the same layout, that's okay too. Just no palette hack alone or character map hack alone. I could do stuff like that ten years ago with no problem and it's really not enough of a feat to even allow it to be entered =)

Just to add something on to this, we now have an IRC channel for the hackingcontest on Retro's server!! Just join #hackingcontest from the server irc.badnik.net to get to it =) The channel is for all questions pertaining to the contest and to discuss various aspects of your favourite current and past contest entries!! I hope you all enjoy the changes that I'll be making to the contest to make it more interactive this year and I hope to make the Seventh contest the best of the hacking contests I've yet to have =)

EDIT: Didn't want to make a new post, so I'll tag it on the end here. If for some reason something happens to me tomorrow (long story), I'm leaving it to Tweaker to decide who will take over the contest for me. That way it's not up for grabs.

I am not arrested or overdosed. The contest will proceed as planned. Thankyou goes to Oerg for being prepared for the worst. Just over a month left, finish off what you have and send 'em in =)
