I like this new color set (if indeed it is new at all), although now I can't help but think something exactly like this (columns with that color scheme) was used in a previous sonic game. EDIT: Can't believe I forgot the last part of the sentence... I hate when I do that.

I prefer the lighter colors myself, and fear that the darker ones look too much like RRZ.
I agree that the darker one does look a lot like RRZ. Im just not so keen on the light one though, it just seems a bit too bright, I imagined the level as a sort of murky and not well lit as its supposed to be underground.
Just to clarify the things, I drew the pillars by myself, pixel by pixel, and it is ABSOLUTELY NOT similar to any existing sonic pillar.

I just meant that color scheme is like RRZ, which is why I thought we should use the initial color scheme that you put on that pillar. That's all.

Possibly we could use them in seperate acts? Also, something like this idea, except within the level: Dynamic pallette changes depending on the area of the level, like the deeper you get into the cave, it would change to a darker or lighter color setting, even going as far as to make Sonic barely visible, like this level of Earthworm Jim, except not as extreme as this... or weird....
I have a purpose about the position of this level in the game. After the Tropical and the Circus zones, all characters goes to "Canadian" zone. However, if we play with Knuckles, near the begin of the level he falls in a trap made by Fang. Fang should catch Knuckles with a lasso and throw him into a chasm for example. I think a such level perfectly match with Fang and his trapper facet. Then, this scene will be a wink at the trap tighted by Knuckles in Hydrocity Zone. In this case of course, the Canadian zone would be very short for Knuckles, as Hidden Palace Zone in Sonic & K. It also means Knuckles should be the only character who can pass through the first act of this area. Sonic and Tails would pass throught Canadian zone but they could take a secret passage at the end of the act 1 (behind a waterfall ?) which leads to the act 2 of Underground Zone. To resume: I/ The way of Sonic and Tails: Circus zone -> Canadian zone Act 1 -> Canadian zone Act 2 or Underground zone Act 2 (if they have taken the secret passage). II/ Knuckles' way: Circus Zone -> Canadian zone Act 1 cutted -> Undeground Zone Act 1&2

While the original concept was great, the colors sucked. The revision has a superior palette, but it's too dull and doesn't stand out like all the other levels in Sonic games. It's too grimdark than colorful and fun. So why not adding the gay with the awesome? It could use one more color to brighten up, I don't know, like a purple or a blue. Before anyone get son my case "LOLOLOLOL! TOO MANY COLORS!". 1) Mock ups. They have not been optimize. 2) Levels should always use more colors than sprites. 3) Kill yourself.
The plan was to have the Canadian zone and the underground zone as split paths. This way when it came to the City zone which is next you would either come in on a raised motorway from the Canadian zone or come up from the sewer if you came from the underground zone
Ok that was a good idea too. I don't want to mess up that has been already decided. However... it is hard to see what has been already etablished and what we still have to do.
