They retconned the art into something better, with no 5+ pages of pitch-black panels or snowstorm whiteouts.
And retconned the dialogue into something mildly better in less words and space. :P

FUCK. I missed it. Does anyone have an extra copy they would like to sell or trade for last year's FCBD?

Why don't you just ask a local shop if they still have a copy? I'm sure not all of them were given away and if your willing to pay they can probably help you.
Otherwise, keep an eye on ebay?

He was a fanfic writer before, so no surprises there. Does he even have any degree in writing or did he jump from the bowels of amateurism to profissionalism with a snap of fingers?
There's something ironic about you criticizing his writing and having a couple of mistakes in your attack.
I think he got the job because he proved he was a good writer, because he garnered enough interest from fellow fans, and because he was ready to handle the series differently than his predecessors. Personally, I think he's great. If you've only got an issue with the fact that he used to write fanfiction, well, take a look around you buddy, you're pretty deep in a fandom already.
How is that the same? I'm not an amateur doing a professional's work.
That all depends on where you draw the line between "amateur" and "professional". I mean, what is professional? The dictionary defines it as "following an occupation for gain".
By that definition, the moment he was hired, he became a professional.
Do not pretend that a number of comic book writers did not, at one point, write fanfiction. When you're a fan of a particular character or universe and you view your own personal strength as that of writing, the two inevitably collide.
And if Ian's doing a better job than the writer(s) to come before him, who cares where he came from?
And Ian most certainly is doing a better job; Penders in particular had a lot of bad habits - he was far more "nerdy" than Ian is, constantly slipping in references to stuff like Star Trek, etc. He also absolutely loved starting big, long, "epic" story arcs and then completely forgetting to finish them (and then when he did get forced in to finish them, well, uh...). Ian's story is a lot lighter and more playful - easier to digest. Maybe lacking depth, but given how scattershot Penders was, Ian's approach is cleaner and better.
The only problem I really remember having when I was reading Ian's stuff is that he had a really bad habit of building up climaxes that sort of fizzle out in the end.

Same here. Miles has been super busy (And super lazy, I've been bugging him a lot lately). At least F4E is still uploading comic scans on a regular basis.
No sexy back issues though.

So they're now remaking Ken Pender's stuff after all the trouble he gave? Hilarious.

Its more of trying to re-fit it back into the storyline.
QUOTE
Given the hectic continuity at the time it was printed, the main story would have likely taken place before Sonic the Hedgehog #79, but given the fact that it's an inventory story, it's a moot point. Writer Ian Flynn has gone on record to say that this story would not even try to be included in Sonic Select anytime soon, but it was rewritten and officially retconned for Sonic Free Comic Book Day 2011.
