Sonic Corp. ("Sonic") (http://www.sonicdriv...com/legal.shtml) That copyright refers to 'Sonic Corp.' You can't copyright the word, 'sonic', like you can't copy the word 'sky.' You can, however, copyright 'Sonic the Hedgehog'

The Archie Sonic Comics notes that Sonic Characters are copyright (or trademark?) Sega.

Copyright is the stupiest law ever made. It's so easy to break it.

As for trademarks, there is another discussion. If Sega owned Sonic The Hedgehog as a trademark, then we can't say a thing.

The trademark for Sonic the hedgehog died in 1993. If they aren't paying for it, they can't own it.

How do you know that?

That's a claim. They can clame to own a trademark. I can claim to own it too. Only the one who's paying for it would win it though.

Record companies pay music artists for the copyright to their songs, so I imagine SEGA paying Yasahara (<- edit) to come up with the Sonic characer was equivalent to this.

I have no idea whether ideas were stolen for Sonic Advance 3. If this is the case we need the proof well documented and organized, and of course the accusation publically annouced on a popular website.

They pay for the word in basic type (usually Roman or Helvetica font). They don't pay for the character, only the name. And for the other characters, there are no trademarks.

And by that, I could make a character that looks like Sonic and call it something else. If they steal that idea, then they're breaking the law.

Good work LOst, I'd love to be in any Sonic game's credits
Shame had to be demanded from them though.
