I was giving Sonic 1 a run through again just to past the time. Got to Spring Yard and when this bugger appeared:

I suddenly remembered how I used to call it "Evil Sonic Clone" just because the way it rolls up into a ball and uses Sonic's palette line (Not knowing that back then, of course.) Another thing I misinterpreted (I'm guessing this is the right word to use, correct me if I'm wrong) was that Balloon platform thing in Sonic 3, Carnival Night Zone. I always thought that was a flying Trifle... Don't ask.

Is there anything you've spotted in a Sonic game that you thought was something completely different to what it actually was, when you were younger?

I thought the balloon platform in Sonic 3 was like.. lava or something. :psyduck:

I also tended to get Hill Top and Marble mixed up, so when I got to Marble Zone Act 3, I'd ragequit thinking I was about to encounter rising lava.

Not quite a misinterpretation, but I do miss the feeling of how mind-blowing Sonic 1-3K used to be when I was younger. :(

I always though that Robotnik was a master jewel thief. God, I was a dumb kid.

Oh shit those are balloons? I thought it was some kinda jelly. It makes sense now. I also thought the roller was some kind of fucked up Sonic robot too.

I used to call Sandopolis Zone "Sandpolis" zone, long story short when I was younger I used to make songs up to match the melody of the level I was playing, and in this case I was singing about how I was in Sandopolis Zone. :v:

I've only just stopped calling Sandopolis Zone, "Sandpolis" zone, today. :colbert: I can't believe that people make the same mistakes, like with the Jelly thing in Carnival Night Zone, Awesome.

    Trapped in my own thoughts.
Two stageplays, a screenplay, and an album
    Finally I understand.

I don't recall much misinterpreting, but I do distinctly remember mispronouncing "Chaos". I also remember spending hours attempting to outrun Robotnik in the Death Egg Zone after beating Silver Sonic. I swear, I got so good at that boss just so that I could repeatedly attempt the impossible.

Oh yeah, I used to say "Chaso" Emerald instead of Chaos. Yeah I mispronounced it too. It wasn't until one of my teachers corrected a kid that was reading a book that had the word chaos in it that I started to pronounce it correctly. xD

When I was younger, I misinterpreted the balloons above the Carnival platforms and the Roller as "Evil Sonic" too. Also I thought the Metal Sonic from Sonic 2 was the Uncle Chuck from the Sonic SatAM cartoon. So, it is a little about as I am a native Portuguese speaker, so I mispronounced Knuckles as Quil-nul-quil-les rather than "Nulcos". But this is because I didn't knew English at this time (and the games wasn't dubbed at this time).

For many years I thought the Sonic was a Porcupine rather than Hedgehog, since the Tec Toy user manual said it.

Because Tec Toy, the Brazilian distributor of Sonic games mistranslated Hedgehog as "Porco Espinho" which is "Porcupine" in English, Hedgehog is "Ouriço" in Portuguese.

I remember when I was younger, I was playing Sonic & Knuckles as Knux, and I thought that Hidden Palace was a secret level because of the way he just went from Lava Reef to Hidden Palace without a boss and because I had played through the game with Knuckles first.

I used to think that Carnival Night and Sandopolis were poorly designed levels.

I thought that the rising lava in Hill Top was so unfair... like, the blue green volcano is gonna erupt while I'm in it? Come onnnnn...

I used to think that there was something wrong with my Sonic 2 game because the cpu could get Tails to fly, but I can't.

I used to think, until recently that Sonic 2's level select code was difficult to input, more difficult than Sonic 3's. :v:

I used to think that in Sonic 2, there would be a Metal Tails in the Death Egg Zone if you played as Tails alone and got that far.

As I'm not a native english speaker I always pronounced Knuckles as: Keenoocklees.

Still today lol. Well today it's more Keenuclkes

    xD.

Also Death Egg, I always pronounced it as Date Egg xD.

I used to think, because I never had the Genesis versions of S3K and only had the PC version, that Sonic 3's level select was input at the vine, not before Sonic jumps onscreen.

Also Sonic related, I had someone print me out Game Genie codes for S3K because I thought you could just input them into normal gameplay on the PC. Damn letters and numbers.

I still do this, and I don't care if it's pronounced "Chow". :colbert: My fiancee corrected me just a few months ago, so for as long as I've had DX, I've been calling then "Kay-oh".

    Same.

Also, just curious, how do you guys pronounce "Hydropolis"? When I was younger (and still now) I pronounced it "hy-DRAH-po-lis" like Metropolis, but then I realized that maybe you could pronounce it "hy-dro-PO-lis" because of the word "Hydro".
