I've owned this game since it came out back in 1995 , and always seen in the back cover of the game a photo of a Sonic statue in the city, but I don't know how to unlock it in the game. Also, I've never seen photos of this in the internet or in Sonic's cameos list around the net.

The game is made by Maxis, but in close collaboration with Sega , and there is even a Sega building in the game who does not apper in other versions of the game.It appears from year 2050 in the game.

Does anyone know how to unlock the Sonic statue in the game? Is this cameo already known?

I've played quite extensively the game many times, finished the game and received all the others bonifications, but never got Sonic...It is strange.

I always wondered myself.

In one of the built-in cities, there's an industrial zone near the edge of the map that turns into a sonic statue after a few minutes. I think it's the one that has a ton of launch arcos.

Sounds like a case of a missing secret.

Or it's just a random award, and not something you can consciously build.

The theory I've always had, is that is appear when you launch anough arcos, but I've tried launching lots of 'em and it never appeared. I'll try in that built-in scenario, thanks!

It's not a scenario but a pre-saved city, called Monroe. But, I couldn't get the statue to appear when I tried it right now. It may have been some other scenario or pre-saved city, but bear in mind that I'm going on a 13 year old memory here. I'm very sure I did see it in-game however, and I also recall that it did not have a special movie when viewed with the in-game help button (press the R shift) - it just showed the building that was normally there.

I remember that scenario, but I don't remember seeing it there. Thanks, and I'll keep trying to see it to keep a record of it for this site.

Reminds me of the Mario statue in the SNES Sim City. Again, an unlockable. Mayhaps people just don't know how to unlock it?

No one figured it out in 14 years, and there's no specific mention of unlocking it in any magazine or code sheet that I know of, nor in the manual (which I read letter to letter when I was little).

I say it's random, unless you guys can come up with a reproducible way to build the damn thing.

I think it is launching arcos, beacuese in the manual or in the game, I can't remember exactly where, it said that if you launch a few arcos something good might happen...

That's a reference to the exodus sequence, which happens if you have 300+ launch arcos by 2050.

... speaking of which, that's something I've yet to see in the Saturn version. On the Monroe city, you start with 6 million money, but thats only enough for about 20 launch arcos.... hmm...

Strangest thing just happened, someone IMed me from their phone mentioning the Mario statue, I'll quote what they said:
QUOTE
Hi ^^
I read that you want to know how to get the Sonic Statue.
As you can see in the video (), the Mario Statue is unlocked after having a city with 500,000 people.
Maybe the Sonic Statue is unlocked the same way...
I don't know if it works, but I guess that it could be something in the right direction ^^

What do you guys think?

EDIT: The gentleman says his name's Dr. Hackman!
