While searching for information about a Sonic R+Sonic 3D combo released in the UK by GSP, I stumbled upon a message posted on the front page of their support site in late 2007, telling people who were encountering "a problem" with Sonic Mega Collection Plus to click forward. Doing this leads to a FAQ with one question highlighted in bold:
Now, GSP is no stranger to misprints (in fact, the Sonic R+3D combo I mentioned earlier has the Sonic 3D files on the Sonic R disc, and vice versa, for me and at least one other person), but this particular one I find particularly intriguing due to the possibility that there might be something interesting inside that RAR file. There's plenty of copies of the GSP release of SMCP on eBay, but as far as I know there is no way to identify which copies are affected (you can identify some copies that definitely AREN'T affected by looking at whether the PEGI rating has colour).
Does anyone know any more details about this, or even know what the RAR file contains?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't you be able to tell if the copy is affected by the PEGI rating not being colored? Or are there similarly uncolored copies that aren't affected?
If I had to take a guess I'd say the .rar files might contain the checksums for the ROM files, or maybe the sound files for the new menus (did Mega Collection Plus even use SMPS?).

I've never heard of this before, but I'm definitely interested. Nice find!

Nope, there's plenty of versions with the grey PEGI rating that aren't affected.
