Hey, guys - been a while.
Working once again on my Sonic remix project, and I'd like to aim to get some more accurate Sonic-3K/Sonic 3D Blast Genesis sounds - obviously the need for a YM2612 VST has become critical in this operation.
I'm downloading 'Genny', as it's one of the only MacOS/OS X compatible ones I could find.
Any better? Obviously moving to Windows for Audio Production is not an option, especially because I not only rely on Logic Pro for all of my DAW needs (and have for a decade, five years professionally), but I also then need to put the result into Final Cut Pro in order to edit video, as I also prefer it.
Obviously, however, there's a total lack of support for anything hacking-tools related for OS X, because the peak of the hacking scene during the 1999-2005 era was actually the *worst* time for MacOS, when it was still PowerPC and there was virtually no way.

If you're willing to spend lots of money, OCRemix has been whoring out ads for Super Audio Kart all over the place:
It includes genesis samples and they offer VST, although I'm not sure on the specifics.
Not aware of any thing else, music production is not my area of expertise.

Geez, for $150 USD I could probably buy some sort of *actual* analog version of the synth...
$150 for a fan project is steep. Especially because they are remixes and thusly cannot be sold.
Sorry, 'Super Audio Kart,' but you're about at least $100 way too fucking expensive. Logic X itself is only $200 :/

A long time ago I'm pretty sure I got VOPM working on Mac OS X in Pro Tools with a VST wrapper. There is a download link on the site: http://www.geocities.jp/sam_kb/VOPM/
You can use VGM2OPM to get OPM files out of VGM files dumped from Gens or similar emulators: http://chipmusic.org...c-maker/page/3/

Sadly there aren't really any VST options for OS X besides VOPM which is an emulation of the YM2151. Genny actually doesn't work on Mac, since the creator listed it as a planned feature and not a current feature. I also recommend trying VOPMex first since it fixed some bugs and it has a better aesthetically pleasing interface. You can get VOPMex from here: https://sites.google...osc/osc-63-vopm
As stated above, you could definitely use VGM2OPM but there is a pack available online that already ripped a ton of Genesis games to work on VOPM/VOPMex right here: https://www.kvraudio...ic.php?t=277864
The organization on that is quite messy though, which is why I decided to organize each .opm file by the game they are from: http://www.mediafire...OPM+Samples.zip
Hope you found this post useful!

Maybe one to keep an eye on too is FMDRIVE YM2612 - it's planned for OSX soon...
I got it maybe a year or two ago, and it's pretty amazing.

Not to take anything away from FMDrive as it's a great emulation of the YM2612, but it's been planned to be released on OSX for about roughly 2 years and nothing ever came from it. As great Aly James is with his products, he really
takes his time with things. What also repels me from advocating FMDrive (for now) is that it's 10 Euros, when there are other emulations with roughly the same features for the YM2612 for free
. A custom sound emulation (created from scratch) and CSM are the only features on FMDrive that is not present at all in any other emulations. If you are wondering what CSM is, it really wouldn't serve a great purpose besides making the YM2612 "talk". It's notably used at the beginning of this track by marcb0t
