I've been seeing chatter about this game from other places. figured what Retro's views on it were...

I'm on the fence about this game. Sure the idea is solid "Recreate STH2006 but in 2D" but its something that Azukara said on SSMB that bugged me:

And from his other posts there total fans of 2006 game play and mechanics which makes me uneasy about liking this.

Take from it what you will Retro, Discuss.

And here I thought this was about BlazeHedgehog's old thing.

To their credit, the mechanics of the engine in that video look serviceable, and there aren't any glaring graphical errors. I don't know why the hell you would want to focus on homing attacks in 2D, a domain where said attack is entirely pointless, but whatever floats their boat. Level design looks linear as hell, though, not a plus.

I'm not a big fan of remakes that add so much it isn't the same game any more. A close remake sounds good to me.

I'm not liking the level layout personally. Since you're asking though, I think pulling a "Colors DS" in terms of 2D remake would be neat. I mean the basic idea though, not saying make a game that plays like Sonic Rush, but I think people get what I mean.

Please don't include the notorious bestiality scene.

I still can't fully understand why'd you make a remake of this game of all games and not make improvements/changes to it's horrible game design. It's just something I can't fully wrap my head around.

I played it and I don't any problems with the layout being faithful with the original game, but you should fix the control problems, like the spindash not charging and Sonic's rolling jump that doesn't hurt enemies but it does hurt Sonic.

All the other things are ok.

    Oh, and also...

    ... this please. :P

FUCK, FUCK, FUCK! Now that's a game I want, watching the gameplay I almost cried, I truly missed Sonic 2006, ever since Sonic Unleashed I never enjoyed a game as I did with 2006, SEGA better announce a new adventure game fast, downloading the demo now :D

Edit: I edited the comment to make it nicer, I just lose myself when I remember how my sisters and I enjoyed that game at the time.

I understand why many people don't like it but I think they're being unfair with it, I believe I'm speaking for the majority here when I say if the game was given more time it would've made a really great game.

I really don't know what to say to this.

On topic though, the engine does indeed look pretty fun to mess around in though I'm not a fan of the Advance graphics. Level layout looks a little too linear, as others have said.

It would have been better if they tried accounting for the fact that a lot of Sonic 06's level design, especially stuff such as alternate paths is spread around the X and Z axis instead of the Y axis, Kingdom Valley for example has a lot of alternate paths but the way they translated it into 2D makes it look far more linear than it is.

To be nitpicky, why was there so much of a 3D model of Sonic running around at the start of the trailer? It was pointless, he isn't even in the game and it dragged on for too long.

Youtube Users (especially the Sonic fans) absolutely love pointless intros. That's all there is to that.

As for this game, it looks kind of good. The graphics are pretty nice at places. The gameplay looks like Sonic Rush but a tad choppy, though.

He sort of is when you hit the end of the level ring the model shows up in the results screen. don't know if he does different poses for each rank though.

  13. I thought this might've been Blaze's old project. Guess not. On the plus side, it looks like they've got '06's level design down pretty good in 2D form.

On the negative side, it's '06's level design. In 2D form. What's the point?

The game has some flaws from 06, namely the spin jump being completely useless.

I'd rather them lose fans like you than bring out another Adventure game.

As the title says, it's Sonic 2006, in 2D! Dude, I'm curious, those Sonic 3d model animations are bitmap or actually 3d models?

I don't see anything wrong with them not making it a "classic" styled game.

However, by the looks of it, it is exactly as the title says. Sonic '06 in 2D. I mean, I hate the game but even I recognize that the layout is exactly the same thing from the 3D game but in 2D. The level design was great in '06 but in 2D it just looks too linear. Even worse, Sonic seems to control as gimped as he does in the 3D version.

I dunno, I guess I'll try it out if it's ever finished.

I think you'd be better off not. Jumping and the homing attack are mapped to the space bar, where as all of the other maneuvers are mapped to the C key. All of them. The stomp, the light speed dsah, the kick and the spin dash are mapped to the C key, and the game is totally stupid when it comes to deciding which one you want to do. I accidentally stomped into the abyss when I meant to do a light speed dash over it. You also have to be perfectly still to charge a spindash or else you just kick.

It wouldn't be as bad as it sounds if you could re-map the controls. What idiot decided on spacebar and c?

Movement is choppy, automation is 90% of the game, all the problems listed above by Namo, the spinjump doesn't hurt enemies (only the homing attack), Spindash is broken, healthbar enemies are redundant... All these issues are flat out game design flaws that were in the original Nextgen and for some reason the developers thought these were good things. I can't really wrap my head around this fact.

You offered help to make a better game and they refused. We may as well just get over the fact that they love Sonic 06 that much..... And the implications of fans of 06's anything quite frankly appalls me.
