Why hasn't SA2 been released for the PC or 360?

    Sonic Adventure DX has been released for both the PC and the Xbox 360, but not SA2. SA2 would be awesome with online multiplayer, and SA2 has some cool objects that would be fun to place in mods for the PC version (gravity control/time stop switches, anyone?) Oh, how I wish there was a Sonic Adventure 2 Battle Preview version with an object placement mode. (Why doesn't Sega just release these betas to the public?) The last part of Crazy Gadget in particular could have some pretty cool object mods. What do you all think? Is there any particular reason SA2 hasn't been rereleased since the Gamecube version?

    There's never been a PC release of SA2, and Sega hates work.

    Simply because it hasn't yet. So long as SEGA continues releasing Dreamcast games on download networks SA2 will come eventually.

    MIDI-to-SMPS-conversions, mostly. Takin' requests, too.
    It does raise the question why it hasn't received any re-releases like just about every other main-series game that's older than 5 years, though, especially considering it's popularity.

    SA1 -> SADX
    SA2 -> SA2B

    It got re-released not too long before SADX, and it wasn't until last year that SADX was ported to anything this generation. I don't think we've been kept waiting longer than usual to be honest.

    Well, it had gotten it's PC port as far back as 2003-2004, though. One has to wonder what stopped them from giving SA2B the same treatment back then as well as now, considering they ported even Heroes.

    Maybe cause SA2B was the first one at which point they had no intention of porting it. SADX, Heroes and MC+ were released afterwards and all got PC ports.

    Well, wasn't Sonic Heroes built in RenderWare? That would've made it really simple to port to PC. It is kind of odd, though. With all the 18-ish year olds who are all, "SA2 IS DA BEST SONIC GAME EVAR OMG", you'd think they could make a really big deal out of it.

  10. This brings up a good point-- Sega was talking about doing dozens of Dreamcast releases on XBLA. And... what happened?

    It's been ten years since Sega did anything with Sonic Adventure 2. Six years for Sonic CD, prior to the 2011 remake. I think it's due for another visit.

    I see your point with SADX, Heroes and MC+. But for SA2, the time difference between the DC and GCN versions seem to suggest otherwise.

    It's possible that the GCN port didn't became a priority until the end of the DC version's development. SA2: Battle was announced in August 2001, just two months after the original release. While extremely early in development, the fact that Sega announced development of the port so soon, along with screenshots of the port (which showed that Sonic's ears, which were pointy in the DC version, possibly due to the polygon count of the original, were already modified to be curved at that point of time to take advantage of the higher poly count the GCN allowed), suggested that SA2 could easily be optimized and realized on Nintendo's then-new platform, the Dolphin (the codename for the Nintendo GameCube).

    With the amount of content added and revised for the GCN port (particularly the revised Chao status', Karate, etc.), it's possible they anticipated the GCN while finishing up the original to bring the more of the Chao content to the updated release as well. The timing couldn't be better either, as the announced GCN-GBA connectivity feature allowed for exchanging data between the two systems, which Sonic Advance could do with its Tiny Chao Garden mini-game. The two were developed in tandem, and were released together in Japan on the same day on December 20th.

    So yeah, it's possible they saw SA2 coming to GCN.

    Personally I've always wondered this, and I chip it down to SEGA 's handling of Nintendo. Us Nintendo gamers got EVERYTHING up until 209/2010. PS and Xbox combined has a huge amount of gamers who would've felt left out by the lack of Sonic games, or DECENT Sonic games, with Sonic Heroes, Shadow The Hedgehog and Sonic Riders being ports, them getting Mega Collection late, didn't get Adventure or Adventure 2, and Xbox users didn't even get Gems Collection. The worst Sonic game in history was also the only exclusive they had- Sonic 2006.
    Although PSP users got the decent Sonic Rivals games, Nintendo owners got Mega Collection, Gems Collection, Adventure DX and 2 Battle, the best versions of Sonic Heroes, Shadow The Hedgehog, Sonic Riders, Sonic Advance 1, 2 and 3, Sonic Battle, Sonic Rush and Rush Adventure, Sonic Chronicles, Sonic & The Secret Rings, a more critically praised version of Unleashed and Colours, not to mention Sonic Riders Zero Gravity and the Mario and Sonic games, oh, and Sonic in Brawl.

    Because the tides have turned as of late, with DLC on the PS3 and Xbox with improved features, Sonic CD, Sonic Generations, the HD version of Sonic 4 and Sonic Riders Zero Gravity, it's almost as if SEGA are letting Nintendo have their Sonic Adventure 2 Battle for a while until it's released elsewhere. It was of course one of the Gamecube's top selling exclusive games, and I still play it today on the Wii. Actually, I still haven't got all those emblems. Goddamn.

    They are waiting for another Taxman to do all the work for them.

  15. Yeah. Cannons core & all A rank emblems are a bitch. I'm stuck on 172 emblems since 2007 or so...

    I'd like to think the SOAP license has something to do with it and Sega are too lazy to take the stuff out of the game.

    Hopefully after the reception of the first four ports (that ranged from lukewarm to negative), they're putting more effort into porting, and the selection process entirely. SA1, Crazy Taxi, and Space Channel 5 are all worthwhile titles to port, but...SEGA Bass Fishing? :psyduck: Who knows what else they had/have planned if that title made it through.

    Did Ken Balough not say in a Sonic CD interview that there are a lot of requests for a re-release of SA2? I think he did, but I'm not sure.

    Working on my art!
    Just change the blimp and alter the shoes.

    Honestly now that it's been a few years since SA2 saw the light of day I'd like if they changed at least the character models a bit. It'd be nice if they used the Unleashed/Generations models for the game, maybe made the power ups less visible (Knuckles looked ridiculous by the end of the game), and add a couple of other nice aesthetic touches (New menus, new results screen like the one in Generations or something, updated HUD, new in game themes, things like that).

    So if SA2 does come to 360, you think SEGA is going to do the DLC thing the same way having SA2 then a Battle DLC?

    SEGA could a fun time selling the old addional features of SA2 and SA2B as DLC. Like the Character-type Chaos and the different outfits made for each version.

    Oh and yes of course, SA2 needs to be ported to PC for mawds.

    And as for the soap shoes, its a non-issue since sonic has his old shoes already made for the game before the SOAP agreement.

    Look at me linking old CulT articles. I'm soooo baaaad :v:
