Have you guys seen/played this? It's currently the only sega game available for Android (wth guys, Android has had a larger market share than iPhone for a while, and Windows Phone 7? What kind of a bribe did they need to do that port of Sonic 4? The weird thing about this game is that it's the opposite of the the console Unleashed in that Sonic's gameplay pretty much sucks but the Werehog levels are the most fun in this game. Also it's neat that they drew inspiration from the Sonic CD sprites, with that twirl animation.
First discussed around the time Unleashed was revealed: http://forums.sonicretro.org/index.php?showtopic=15489&st=0&p=315678&hl=+sonic%20+unleashed%20+mobile&fromsearch=1&#entry315678 I always saw it as a Sonic Rush clone mixed with Ristar. I tried playing it on a mobile phone emulator and I personally never really enjoyed it.
It's out on Android? I've never seen it there. I've played it on my previous phone and through KEmulator Lite, it's not horri-bad for a phone game, the daytime levels are very Rush-ish, though the momentum is weird as hell, this is coming from the 240x320 SE k800 version though knowing gameloft the android port is just a direct port from the J2ME version with onscreen controls, these are some observations I got from the daytime stages: 1) There's a physics system in place, and it feels like the bastard child of the classic physics and the Rush physics put on a Sonic 06 filter. 2) If you jump at full speed or fall from a ledge you keep your momentum in the air even without holding down a direction, however, you come to an instant halt the moment you land if you don't hold a direction. 3) If you jump at anything less than full speed then the momentum gets cut down somewhat but otherwise behaves similarly to 1). 4) If you jump at a standstill or at a very low speed, you can control the direction of the jump, otherwise you can't, regardless of whether you are rolling or running, platforming sections become difficult because of this and insta-kill pits. 5) Homing Attack keeps your momentum instead of halting it like usual on Sonic games. 6) Spindash behaves like Sonic CD's 7) Bouncing from enemies keeps whatever height you were at. 8) You can run up walls at any speed and you gain speed while moving upwards as long as you hold right/left. And Apotos features Crabmeat :v: *EDIT* One more thing, some versions of the game (particularly the 240x320 ones) use 3D models for some of the stage scenery: The clock tower in Spagonia, the dragon road in Chun-nan, and I think that some pillars use it for rotation on Mazuri. *EDIT*
Yeah, this isn't up on the Android Market anymore, from what I've seen. It's a shame, because I never got a chance to play it.
Hmm, I did some searching and it appears that this was never an official port, some chinaman just took the jad and wrapped it in something. That's why it's not on the market anymore.
I really did not think it was a good game, unless the version that leaked in advance of it being released officially was just a crappy beta or something. It felt like a bootleg cart you'd find for the SNES. Most of the more creatively minded among us here at Sonic Retro could probably do a better job (and I'm a little sad nobody ever bothered to crack the graphics format or at least rip the level tiles the old fashioned way just for such a purpose).
Wait I thought gameloft released this making it official? Either way I'm suprised no one has bothered ripping the sprites and music from this game.
Yeah, I found free Android ports of Sonic Unleashed and All-Stars Racing, but the on screen controller buttons are tiny and not very responsive, even on the Droid X.
I used to have this on my phone until I updated the firmware and it removed all my games. To be honest, it was a pretty rubbish game though. It felt like a poorly made flash game, and it didn't help that the controls felt so awkward on my phone. If they improved the physics and made the movement of Sonic much smoother though, a port to the iPhone would interest me.
Just run the .jar on KEmulator Lite, and it's really easy to find with a google search, just make sure you get at least the 240x320 versions.
I've been playing it for about 10 minutes, and I guess there's some ok parts to it, especially for a mobile game, but it kind of sucks. The pixel art is pretty nice though.
I played it briefly on an emulator awhile back, and found it pretty dull. The problem with ports like this is that they aren't organic at all, the game is required to take stages and gimmicks and translate them. That's where the effort goes, not into making the game fun. It's playable, definitely competent. But there's no soul in it at all, it's uninspired.
The day stages are lame, but I honestly enjoyed the night stages. Plus, Sonic's sprites are clearly based on the Sonic CD sprites,so that's pretty neat. Hell, with the Werehog sprite sheet someone could put him in a hack such as Megamix.
