I got bored for a while, so I did stuff, in the mix of that I created this:
    http://www.mediafire.com/?3gid8858cd6eba4
    [IMG] (slightly old screeny)
Unlike other 'Maze Editors' (That I know of), this one has select, shape tools, flipping and shifting.
Shapes are basic line, rectangle and ellipse (no fill).

    Controls:
Mouse Wheel: Cycle Items (or palette)
    Left Click: Add Items
    Right Click: Erase Items
Ctrl + Click + Drag: Select Items
    Ctrl + C: Copy Selection
    Ctrl + V: Paste Selection
    Ctrl + A: Select All
    Ctrl + Z: Undo
    Ctrl + Y: Redo
    L + Click + Drag: Draw Line
    R + Click + Drag: Draw Rectangle
    E + Click + Drag: Draw Ellipse

This thing is awesome! I especially like size of the window, because that made editing huge special stages a lot easier.

Only one thing I'd like to know: This editor reminds of Mercury's Special Stage Editor, a lot. I'm assuming you made your's based of his one, right?

Kinda. It was a large inspiration.

Fantastic editor. The gui is very easy to figure, so I liked this editor a lot. But where do I found this before? I was already using this program at a week ago!
(Well, probably I'm using the Mercury's one.)

Ooh, I guess it is confusing. I made it a lot lighter to try and make it look different.

Haha, I'm sorry for the mistake. I've download your program now then I adopted it now. You did a great job, dude.

I fixed a problem. It was small, but hey, you might wanna re-download.

+ - Right - clicking selections pastes it to the layout, but it deleted the item under the mouse still.

Wonder if this runs in Wine... but other than that, this looks epic from what I've seen! When I get off of my lazy ass, I'll take a look at it in my WinXP VM.

Why does no one ever make OS X versions of these sorts of programs *runs*

Anyway, this looks fun to use!

The first thing I thought when I read "Chaos Editor" was actually this, but that's probably just because I'm a big Chaos: The Battle of Wizards fan.

HOLY GOD WHAT IS UP WITH THAT.
What bugs me is that I have seen edited Sonic 2 special stages. :tinfoil:
I hate to be the complainer but you'd think someone somewhere would have done something about it by now.
    I wish I could...

It's funny, I did ask about this but uhhhh...

    ...yeah =(

    Anyways!

As for this application, like I mentioned in the "General" thread, nice work, it's clean, clear and put together nicely with a few neat features, can't say fairer than that =)

Well (sorry for going off-topic here), are there any documents about the S2 Special Stage format? I think the reason why there are so many special stage editors, is that it's having a DAMN simple format. How are you supposed to make an editor without knowing how it works?

+ - But you made me curious now. Lemme see if I can understand the format. :V

Edit: Added quote so Sonica knows that I didn't talk to him. =P

Yes, I've had quite enough of you...! *Thump* *Blackout*

I'm still going to add more tools to this. Mainly when I figure some out. Or I work out a flood-fill algorithm...

Funnily enough I DID look into this YEARS ago back when we all worked in hex, but after about an hour of trying to figure out the existing research I realised how insanely difficult it was going to be and had to abandon it =|

Don't forget the S3K/S3/S&K special stage editor from Esrael Neto.
Well, Sonic 2 is actually the remaining one.

This program from the topic is impressive due to the giant number of features it has.

For Sonic 2, ask Qjimbo. I believe I posted this link 16777216 times by now every time someone mentions Sonic 2 special stages.
