Another one I remember is a "Bridge of Death" in Soleanna which would insta-kill any follower character who followed you. They'd just inexplicably fall face-down and die and stay there, dead. All this over crossing a bridge in Soleanna in the 360 version...

I don't think that was any specific bridge. Playing the game at launch, I had that happen more than a few times at random places around old Soleanna (I think they call it Castle Town in-game?) My understanding was, it happened if whoever was following you fell in to the water, died, but you moved out of range just as that happened so they'd respawn nearby, lay down and immediately die.

Whatever caused it, it was absolutely hilarious to witness. Especially when playing as Silver and you could bury the corpse in apples.

I loved killing them off on purpose, especially Amy since she jumped fucking constantly and killed my ears.

*Super Sonic was left out at the last minute and is easily acessible.

Err, what? Pretty sure all signs point to in-game Super Sonic functionality just not being there AT ALL aside from that unfinished rainbow gem animation.

All those videos on YouTube of the Super hacks are evidently very dodgy and indicative of forcing the game to do something that it just doesn't have provisions for.

This. All of the vids on YouTube are model swaps and (awful) animation replacements.

Ah, that explains why Super Sonic looked like he was mopping the floor with his belly. I thought it was just due to his animation being unfinished.

Yeah, the hacks for the game to play as Super Sonic are just model swaps. The whole thing was just unfinished, if not straight up scrapped at the end.

There's also the odd occurrence in Iblis Phase 3 that when Blaze dies, she never comes back the rest of the fight, despite speaking the whole time.

I meant to post this earlier, but the download link that was provided earlier can be put on an xbox via usb as well. This way you can copy it over to your xbox 360 hard drive.

Um, on the Super Sonic thing, it's also perfectly possible that the rainbow gem was unusable outside the final boss, so we can't even argue that Super Sonic was playable outside that level =/

But Sonic never transforms outside of the Super Sonic scene so why would a transformation animation be there?

There's no way that normal Sonic could move around in the final boss arena. He'd fall to his death.

How don't we know that transformation animation was meant to play in a cutscene? =P

Anyways, if it was scrapped early, it could have been used in pretty much any way, so really, what proof do we have about its use?

That's the nature of deleted assets, at least as far as lack of research is concerned. I'm not saying lets run out there and hunt down 2006 prototypes (older than the one they sold to people) but perhaps more sifting is needed than the initial bit done in 2006-2007.

The only true facts are that there was a rainbow gem, Sonic can use is like any other gem, and it activated Super Sonic. No one knows how far along it got before being scrapped (or at least just hidden away), when it would have been obtainable (180 gold medals seems likely), how much it'd have cost in the store, and how it would be triggered (50 rings + a full chaos gauge? Does it slowly drain the gauge instead of rings?)

Hell, the only theory I can shoot out is possible music for the form when active in a stage:

And even that's a stretch, but given Super Sonic's theme eventually used in Colors...

Go ahead and curse me out for saying this, but why don't we focus on hacking and not talking about finding how to look for a build that might not be obtainable. The stuff GeneHF found is REALLY interesting, as I have a huge interest in the development of 06. Have people sufficently torn apart the ripped 360 and PS3 games? Isn't it pretty easy to mod PS3 stuff nowadays?

Excuse me if I'm wrong, because honestly I don't have the first clue about hacking current gen stuff.

Is the '06 Platinum Hits for the 360 faster at loading than the original version? Or am I that patient? Also, to be more on topic, don't forget about the numerous alternative missions, possibilities of using the "amigo" characters (not in a mode where you can't choose the character nor save), the music to buy (and listen to) and how silver was supposed to be faster via an upgrade. There was much discovered in just the text alone.

That's the problem we face now. The most I can do is use my awesome JOURNALISM skills to track down people and try to schedule interviews with them... which hasn't been easy due to difficulty tracking them down or trying to maneuver through red tape.

And with Generations coming up, the techies with the capabilities to dissect the game are going to be more focused on plundering the data there.

Out of curiosity, was the homing attack in '06 always intended to be fundamentally different in how it operated, or was meant to be like it was before, and didn't work properly due to technical problems?

A similar animation is used when you switch to Super Sonic in the last battle. the only difference is since he's already super, his quills don't float up.

To that end, there is one for Shadow and Silver also. It's possible that the animations were just thrown in the final battle so as to not go unused.
