2 days ago I suddenly decided to make a hack and release it before new year. I called it "Sonic Quick Winter Adventures". It's "quick", because there's only one zone in the game. I've been working on it for 3 days, but I could add much stuff. Features: - Spin Dash, Jump Dash, Homing Attack - Falling snow - New level layouts (well, almost new) - GHZ3 boss was moved to GHZ2 - At the end of GHZ3 you'll see something amazing! Download: http://vladikcomper.narod.ru/download/s1qwa.zip
That "something amazing" was pretty good, although it should've used the dying animation after the explosions were finished.
I just downloaded and got through it. Here's my quick reply for this quick hack; The layouts are heaps cool, the Homing Attack's actually pretty useful, that something amazing was challenging but heaps fun, and I thought the music was heaps fitting. Thanks heaps! owo EDIT: I need to lern2tag .A.
Almost C/P'd from SSRG: This is very good and a "cool" idea. This hack is the proof that simple ideas can make a decent quick hack (a hack doesn't need millions of new things, they just need to be good). The "something amazing" was... well, good, but it was kinda hard to beat (or maybe I just suck). Out of curiosity, the snow, is every snowflake a single object or are there multiple ones one or weren't you using objects at all?
An excellent and fun little hack, but I feel you could move just a little too fast and really ended up literally flying past the level. Otherwise, great fun.
.. hah, very nice, and very unexpected at the end of act 3. While the layouts are almost the same as Sonic 1's normal ones (in terms of chunks, objects a different story), it works with this. A lovely little hack.
That surprise at the end was brilliant. Overall a nice little hack. Layouts were good and they felt like Sonic 1 layouts and the bosses were fun. Very nice :D
Very good, I wasn't expecting 2 bosses, and the last one was unexpected, although I'm not sure what it is(evil sonic maybe?). Good work, do I dare say you are already on the way to tech memebership.
I must admit that I was somehow impressed. Two obvious things. The songs imported from Sonic 2 sound wrong, probably because you didn't swap the second and the third byte of each group of operators. Look here for reference. The boss music starts playing at the end of Act 1. This is a problem which affects several other hacks, as the level in ram (FE10 and FE11 iirc, I haven't hacked in months) is incremented too soon. Basically it goes like this: level is incremented -> fade out. To avoid this problem, just don't have Act 1 end at the same X location where the boss is in Act 2
I like this hack! I could pick out bits and piece of the original layout, but everything else is just fine. As far as I know, this is the first (released) hack to use weather effects! Good work, hope to see more soon.
Died to the last boss. I think the problem here is that it's INCREDIBLY easy to get hit by it when you hit it - I think this happened to me about half of my attacks. Novel idea, though, if nothing else =P
Wow. I like the Act 1 ending (and I'm a bit disappointed that Acts 2 and 3 didn't have something similar). The Act 2 boss was made surprisingly hard, considering that he's just a bit lower, swinging the ball on a shorter chain. As for the final boss... It's about time someone did that. Keep it up!
Little issue that made the third boss harder than it needed to be. If you're on the far right of the screen, spindashing to the left doesn't work. Sonic will enter the spindashing state and use the correct animation and all that, but he doesn't move.
Really? I'd never noticed it before. I guess this is the first boss I've fought where that's really relevant.
It's incredibly noticeable in the ARZ boss. Why must momentum take me to the right pillar, yet dodgy physics encourage me to the left?
Hahaha, that was a nice surprise at the end. Overall, a fun little hack. Perhaps beginners should aspire to similar short hacks to this rather than making a full game? ( Don't worry, I'm not saying your a beginner )
Sorry for a delay with my posting, I had problems with my Internet provider. I'm glad that people liked my hack. I called it Sonic Clone. I wanted to do dying animation but was lazy to add extra tiles in Sonic Clone's patterns or maybe had no time. However this disappearing behind the explosions suits well, because he is robot. But the dying animation would be rather funny. No, even I, being its creator, knowing his AI, often die to him He seems to be as hard as Gorbichev in Sonic Boom. It's almost impossible to him without ring loss. Each snowflake is a single object. But I have an idea how to put them into one object, but I'm not sure if it works.
Played through today. This was actually quite fun. I'd love to see it made into a full-blown hack. It would be great to see some good custom level design.
