Hello there! I was remembering that back when the Sonic Chronicles website first opened, they released a few samples of music from the game that were much better than the one found in the final game. I remember the Panic Puppet zone saturn music that was used at Metropolis in Sonic Chronicles, it sounded much less screeching than the one found in the game although it was the same chiptune version. I also remember that loaded at my old MP3 back from my teenager days, but it is long lost and I can't find those versions anywhere in the net, only the game rips. Does anyone remember it too, and comes to still have it somewhere? I think it is unpreserved and we sound preserve it somehow even if it's in infamous OST. Does anyone still have it?
I honestly don't remember this. The music on the website always sounded as bad as the in-game music, IIRC. I do remember some old pre-release uploads using different music though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DzHIDd7Gpo
It wasn't my memory! I finally found them ( thanks to DaGuAr) and yes, It is just as I remember. Same themes, but sightly better quality ( more clear instruments, less screeching). Compare them: Ingame Metropolis theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzOGuQ88nPE Website Metropolis theme https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFrQ8vBRc6w Ingame Battle: Win theme https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i42Goad1lY0 Website Battle: Win theme https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHK_axhgO4A Also, that prerelease gameplay music is really, really different, but in the same style as the battle music in the game ( the only remnants of what the original OST of the game ) so it's easy to assume it's one of the theme they had copyright problems with. Good find!
I don't see much difference other than the filtering used in the samples the schreech you hear is because of the bad interpolation used by the emulator the guy used to rip the sound.
They are definitely different builds of the song. For example at the Battle: Win, the ingame music has a stop around 0:03, while the website has not. It's subtle but it's there.
The 'stop' is not in the song data. It's divided into two files because the first part is played before the results and the second part is only played after you press 'continue'.
