Thought this was thread and discussion worthy. Saw this on ResetERA:

Via the Sonic Twitter account: https://twitter.com/...074525281677313

For those unable to read the text it says:

Quote

As part of our ongoing efforts to prepare for our new game announcement, as well as release Sonic Mania Adventures Part 3 this month.

So it confirms a new Sonic game announcement is imminent which is most probably the racing game - and Sonic Mania Adventures Episode 3 is coming this month. Presumably the text means that the game announcement and the new Mania Adventures episode should both dawn before the month is out? Also Aaron (who's behind this account anyway) said this in the last Sonic stream:

Quote

A lot of you have been waiting for news and information, and you're very curious about what that title was that we teased back at South by Southwest, and at least in the near future, you might be hearing some more news and information about that. So hey, that's coming up. Get ready. It's on the horizon.

So at a guess this is definitely the Sonic racing game teased at SXSW and it will be revealed around the time Mania Adventures Episode 3 drops next week. Seriously looking forward to it given the Sonic R references used in the marketing indicating that it may carry influence from that game.

So guessing announcement and reveal next week - and then probably a gameplay demo at E3? We'll see very soon.

A proper reveal of the racing game around now was inevitable; there's no way they wouldn't have it ready to show at E3. It's likely they want to get it out there before the show starts so that it doesn't get buried under all the other announcements.

If it's the racing game, which it almost certainly is, why do we need a separate thread for this?

EDIT: On closer inspection, it doesn't look like a separate one was ever made. NEVER MIND THEN

In that case, we probably should rename this tread when the racing game is inevitably announced. Either that or re-purposing the all star racing tread ?
Pretty sneaky of them to hide this in a meme, tough. I'm not big on racing games, but if the rumors that say that the game will be Sonic only are true, I'll be pretty happy. Never cared much for ASR's cast.

Ah thanks Overlord for keeping this thread open. Yeah I thought it would be cool to have a thread about the news and in tandem with that one dedicated to the racing game because we don't actually have an active and dedicated thread for the game yet. I've just renamed this thread as per your (and SuperSnoopy's) advice to make it more of a dedicated "Sonic Racing" thread given that news is almost definitely coming about the game very soon and most probably next week. I'll also update the thread title and subtitle when the game is officially revealed and announced which given Sega's hints will probably be before the month is out.

Returning to the topic: Yeah this is evidently Sega wanting the racing game to have the spotlight before E3 given a game like this would get drowned in the announcements of the actual show. Sega also traditionally reveal Sonic games around Spring time in standalone reveals prior to E3 which is almost definitely what this is - with things like demos showing up at E3.

So guessing we'll get a reveal/announcement around now and then the game will be shown off more at E3. More coming next week hopefully.

So what are the odds on the devs being Digital Sumo? Both all stars racing were great as budget titles, and Transformed had a surprisingly big heap of content.

Almost definite. There was a leak a while back saying Sumo was working on a kart racer for a massive and established IP which everyone presumed to be Sonic. And then there was a leak/rumour outright stating that it was a Sonic kart racer (the rumour that stated it would be Sonic-only as opposed to the all-stars games) that also cited Sumo as the developer behind it.

It's not 100% confirmed or verified yet but given the rumours/leaks everyone is presuming it's them. We'll find out soon potentially Monday or Tuesday of this week.

As long as SonicTeam isn't developing it, it has a shot to be good. My bet is also on Digital Sumo.

It will be interesting to see what they do. If it's only a kart racer, I don't think I'll be interested. I hope they find a way to include foot racing.

There's no doubt in my mind that Sumo is behind it. All-Stars Racing and Transformed were nearly perfect kart racers comparable to Mario Kart, SEGA would be pulling quite the SEGA if they dropped them and hired someone like Big Red Button to do it.

I don't think BigRedButton even exist anymore anyway
Is it too soon to start talking about the game soundtrack ? I'd love to see some cheesy vocal tracks like in R.

Good to see a racing game again! I hope it ends up being good. so I believe that Sega will outsource this title to Hardlight or another one of the Smaller Companies that have done something like a port for Sega. If Dimps, please don't let them mess it up.

Yeah Sumo Digital are the developers most definitely. Where there's smoke there's fire after all. We know they're definitely working on a new racer with a big publisher so I think Sonic is a safe presumption particularly given that recent leaks indicated the same. As for the soundtrack I don't think it'd be out of reach to hope that Richard Jacques returns. They've used Sonic R's iconic "R" in the marketing for this so I'm presuming there's some kind of Sonic R influence on the game though to what extent is anyone's guess. It could mean the game's a spiritual sequel to Sonic R or it could mean the return of on-foot racing - or it could just be a marketing ploy and we'll see a standard Sonic-focused kart racer like Sumo's past games. Regardless the announcement should be coming this week. I may have jumped the gun with "Monday or Tuesday" but I think it's realistic to expect it probably around the time Mania Adventures Episode 3 drops which is due before the month is out and therefore sometime this week.

I'll update the thread as soon as the game's announced. I'm super interested to see what influence - if any - Sonic R will have on the game. So hoping we'll get an announcement/reveal trailer soon.

Any excuse to hear Crush 40's "Into the Wind" or "Revvin' Up" in a Sonic racing game is good enough for me. :v
