I'm very scared. As much as I would like to see Sega's internal Animation studio actually work some something substantial after Night of the Werehog, Sony Pictures aren't them.

Our only hope is Grenndy.

Do note that it's entirely possible that Marza Animation Planet (aka Sega's CGI team) are the people making this, not Sony Pictures Animation, and Sony Pictures is just in charge of distribution.

Sony Pictures Animation is capable of making decent movies without Genndy (who is too busy working on his Popeye movie for 2015 to work on this anyway); see Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs.

So wait. A Sonic movie and CG TV show? I know Sonic and many other IP's have had multiple cross-medium projects running simultaneously, but assuming they're going to be two separate entities, seems kind of weird. In the 90's they pulled it off, but I'm wondering what kind of marketing issues they'll have in an era saturated by the internet. Unless Sonic Boom has been cancelled? Or won't be out yet before they make this one?

Tentatively excited, but it's still very odd.

I'll just echo what Dabble said at the end of his/her post and say that it will be interesting if it stays true to the games. I can't imagine anything too bad coming out of this so long as it is at least a bit more faithful to the games than the OVA, which was probably the most faithful out of any of the shows (though it could have obviously been much closer). There aren't many adaptions I can think of that have turned out bad despite staying true to their source material. Then again, feel free to point a couple out, because I'm sure there must be a few I'm overlooking.

I was actually kind of excited until I read this. Now, not so much. Still, it'll be interesting to see what comes of this.

If anything does come out of this domain securing, let's all hope the movie doesn't go horribly wrong like most video game movies I've heard of. Who knows, right?

It would be nice if they were to stay true to the games. That would certainly help its appeal.

In b4 it's another CGI character lost in the real world. Has to overcome our Earthly problems, like jobs and mortgages. It ends with him becoming CEO of Sega.

Sounds like it could work as a homage to SegaGaga at that, which would be neat.

Is there any possibility this could be used to launch Sonic Boom? Theater Movie, then comes out on DVD/Bluray just before the series starts and have them tie together?

Make it liveaction and Segata Sanshiro and I'm onboard. =P

In 1998, a lone warrior saved a company from being destroyed by a ballistic missile. He rode with the missile out into space, and was presumed dead when the missile exploded harmlessly in the outer atmosphere.

But the man did not die... The explosion of the missile in the atmosphere opened up a wormhole. The man was teleported to another world, one much like his own. Except, in this world, his sacrifice was meaningless. The company he had risked his life to save still fell under hard times, and was but a shell of its former glory. The man, with tears in his eyes, came to one conclusion.

This cannot stand.
This will not stand.
He will restore his company's dignity the only way he knows how: beating the everloving snot out of anyone who dares not believe in them.

Coming to theaters, this summer... Segata Sanshiro.

Probably would like it better than her current voice actor.
