Long story short, someone hijacked my account. I'm back now, so don't worry. It's been taken care of.

Now we should get on topic!

Yay. So you still retain your innocence!

Anyways, I've forgotten how decent Sonic X was when I watched it today on Hulu. I really liked it back than.

Heh. I just watched an episode, and the one thing that stood out in my mind was the theme song. I'm thinking it either didn't translate well AT ALL, or simply that the Japanese are batshit insane. I'm leaning toward the latter.

That's what the sentence is saying. It's a japanese pun that's lost in translation. "Abunai yo" (Watch out) sounds similar to "Have a Nice" when said with a japanese accent "Haba nai-ssu".

The entire song is a giant truckload of japanese puns. Like I said, it translates terribly.

I've never watched the dub. Did they break the fourth wall as often as they do here?

Actually, the Japanese version has more wall breaking than the dub, typically with Japanese-related puns and jokes. For instance, in episode 16 (Shoot for the Sunken Ship in the South Sea), Sonic is given a hose to breath with to go underwater. During the sequence, he and Chris hold signs for the audience to read. Chris' states "Good kids won't study this and try it at home", while Sonic's states "You mean I'm not a good kid?". In the dub, they just hold up blank signs.

I was wondering why those signs were blank. I was under the impression that the Hulucast was an uncensored sub, but apparently not.

Subtitled only, but better than nothing.

You make that sound like a bad thing. I've heard nothing but bad things about the dub.

Also, I just watched the first few minutes of the first episode. Fuck I love the action music in this. Especially the theme for that racing team.

I realize the song doesn't translate well but the only translation I ever saw that made sense to me was this Hong Kong one:

Probably not very accurate though. I just think it's funny that for once Hong Kong took nonsense and made it make sense where as usually it's the other way around. Yay for Sonic saying shit on Hulu.

I was pleasantly surprised that they preserved Sonic saying "shit" in episode 2 for some reason.

Well, that was interesting. So is it possible that translating Japanese to Cantonese to English creates consistently coherent translations for nonsensical Japanese songs?

+1 to fourth wall breakage in the first episode. I haven't exactly been a huge fan of the show, but that whole "remember kids, don't jump on a moving car" conversation made me lol. Why did 4Kids take that out?

Also, (I don't really know for sure) it seems like there's better explanation of things in the sub, like I don't really remember the whole part where Sonic talks about the moon and stars looking the same from where he came from.

TMS International version, I'd believe.

It's like uncut, except it's less Japanese anyway, for some reason.

4Kids Executive: "Kids don't care about astronomy! Throw out the exposition dialogue and put in a funny one-liner instead!"

Yeah. This is as "uncut" as 4Kids is allowed to provide, seeing as TMS Entertainment painted off all the japanese writing on the episodes before giving them to anyone outside of Japan.

I'm surprised as is that they've managed to get the japanese logo in the opening. Other foreign distributors had an english logo instead.
