Theory: the Magazine has at the time the Sonic 2 Beta, they don't ask "Why the cavern is called Dust Hill?" they only put MCZ as DHZ, you has seen before any magazine ask "Why a forest is called Emerald Hill?", a magazine error based on Dust Hill error.

Search on google images Dust Hill

Many Sand

Dust Hill is supposed to be a Winter level too, I think the name Dust Hill is perfect to a level of Sand and Snow!

I generally don't believe magazine articles, just because I see so many mistakes in magazines. But I won't get into that.

The point is, just because you think Dust Hill is a perfect name for the desert level doesn't necessarily mean that it is the real name for the level.

And yeah, the desert level was going to have a pallete change (and other changes of course) to change into a winter level in the second act, so says Brenda Ross.

I did not have racist intentions, but I think that the American artists would not make a better work that the Japanese artists, the original normally is better, also thinks that the Japanese would not make a better work in something originally American, sorry.

I am racist? Look your avatar!

Are you one of those people that believe that the Japanese is the epitome of all creation and that anime is the best things you can watch on TV?

As for Quick Man's avatar...

Don't assume things...

Nope, just that they weren't overwritten with anything else. And they were from the same ROM, different game.

Not necessarily. Generally, when flashing a ROM cartridge, you have to erase it before reprogramming it. I think the leftover tiles are from an error in the compilation process of the Sonic 2 Alpha/Beta/whogivesashitwhatitscalled, and they accidentally included those tiles.

But the Dust Hill screenshot is a mock-up for marketin, no real gameplay, they take the art from level, not from a cart, but probable from their computers(or what they use to make the art of a game), and put Sonic, crocobot, rings, etc...

They take the art from the game, how else whould they be able to make a screen shot of it?

"He was just dropped in for placement for the marketing folks. It was totally random and has nothing to do with any real gameplay."
I think they use a type of editor to make the mock-up.
I think the artists are not idiots to make this error, they put on magazines.

In your dreams :P
They used a special device that could only show 8x8 tiles at once. They had to put it into the game and take a screen shot of it to see the result.

But she say it was totally random, I think they don't open the game, they take the graphics and make a moku-up based on the Dust Hill layout.

I'm guessing the Digitizers had a function to just arrange the created graphics on screen to see how the level would look like, and make this kind of mockups.

I mean, you can do that even with MS Paint...

My theory: They have 10% of the completed levels in this alpha, likes Wood Zone, and they have to take screenshots for previews in magazines, SEGA tell they to take screenshots, they make moku-ups based on the tiles, enemies, rings and etc they have at the time.
