Markey, two figures which would be useful to find out would be:

1. How long will it take you to make the game that you want to make.
2. Realistically, how much income do you need in order to live to a reasonable level of comfort for the duration of that time.

If you know that, you know how much investment you're looking for.

In addition to Patreon/Kickstarter,etc, you might also consider approaching retro publishing houses - you have a portfolio of work to demonstrate your abilities, a concept to propose, and a figure for investment. You never know, you might be able to arrange some kind of deal.

This idea is excellent. Your work is strong enough to attract a retro publisher. It would evade the need to go through a stressful Kickstarter campaign and allow you to commence work on your passion projects immediately. It is possible. Many indie developers have done so and achieved it. Potentially send out some pitch emails?
