  1. Sega should add mod support to more Sonic games on Steam

    So, I just bought Sonic Mania for a second time (got it on PS4 day one) on Steam for the sole purpose of trying out and making my own mods for it. The modding tools are coming along well, but it's been making me wonder if it'd be even better for both the modding community and Sega if they added support for Steam Workshop. SADX has tons of great mods, SA2 has a decent selection, and Mania's is exploding. They added support for Sega Genesis and Mega Drive Classics and it's been in frequent use ever since. No idea how much it boosted their sales but I imagine by a lot. What would it take to convince Sega this is worth their time?

    Let's assume that a classic 2D Sonic game is being made on an engine that can't support slopes. (So not 3D like SRB2 pre-slopes update) All the physics are correct with this base game but slopes arefor whatever reason impossible. How would you go about making the game fun without such a fundamentally important part of the classics? The early game gear games and older fan games can be used for reference.

    I've always been curious about Fleetway as a whole because I love how different each Sonic adaption was in the nineties, for better or worse. I'm curious about what's considered the best content from Fleetway, as I know a lot about it but don't have time to read it outright. I'm looking for the most original ideas they had; for example I remember reading about an issue where an evil Sonic appeared who turned out to be an extra life that escaped from its monitor, or a villain who was made out of Megamuck, interesting ideas like that that no other adaption did.

    Hey! So I've wanted to create a fan game for the last 16+ years but recently have really gotten the motivation to dig in and start working. Problem is, with the Sonic Physics Guide existing, now there's a surplus of engines floating around; probably a third of the topics on the first page of this subforum are dedicated to them.

    Soon I want to get into actual programming, and have the tiniest bit of knowledge on how to right now. I would like to use an engine then that isn't based on something like Game Maker, Multimedia Fusion or Clickteam Fusion, since they aren't really the tour of programming I'll work with beyond this fan game. I've seen a Unity engine floating around, and I really would be curious to try out the one Time Twisted used if it got released. (Was it still the one made by Mercury?) I would like for it to have some degree of user friendliness; I remember trying the E02 engine a long time ago and being very lost, but that might have changed since then.

    So, out of either experience or through examples of good fan games made out of them, what are some of the best engines meeting that criteria that are out there?
