I've been meaning to post this forever, but in the 2001 live action Josie and the Pussycats movie, which was all about corporate brands selling out, Space Channel 5 and Crazi Taxi were featured in one of the stores Alan Cumming visits to play the newest DuJour track, and the stadium where Josie and the Pussycats perform a pay-per-view (remember those) concert at the end of the movie is the "Sega Megarena".

I asked the directors of the movie personally at an anniversary screening of the film how the sponsorships worked in the movie and they basically said that they had to ask permission to use all the IPs and names and logos and not a single one was actually a paid endorsement. All merchandise and advertising seen in the movie had to be created or purchased by the studio.

I also have things I probably should post.

Mallrats (1995)

Word on the street is they wanted to use a Mega Drive, but Sega insisted a Saturn was put in there instead.

There is also, apparently, a Sega slot machine visible in Carry on Spying from 1964... which could be one of the oldest Sega "cameos" in film. Ooh matron etc.

p.s. I am sort-of keen to compile these for the wiki. Although it might get a bit unmanageable. You should test the theory.

References to Sega/Film and television

This page is needed more than you might think - half the videos in this topic are now dead.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day:

Wasn't there an arcade sequence in Robocop 2?

The X-Files Episode "D.P.O." has a number scenes that take place in an arcade, and the tunes of Green Hill Zone and Invincibility from Sonic 1 can be heard, as well as sound effects like ring grab and Sonic jumping, even though no Sonic game is shown. However, Virtua Fighter 2 is shown at various points, and is in fact a plot point.

Crazy Ex Girlfriend - Ping Pong Girl

The lyric at 1:25 are referencing the iconic SEGA chant from the 90s. And not even subtlety - they literally just go "SEGAAAAAA!".
