Mighty In Sonic 1

    Big the Cat would work like a slower character with incredible weight that makes him roll really fast down hills (or he's so heavy automatically rolls down hills), and he can bellyflop to bounce higher in the air. He could use his fishing pole in a way that it'd function like Ristar's stretchy-arms, so that it grapples onto things and reels him in (like ledges, or something). Don't know how doable that would be either though.

    This is exactly how Mighty should play in hacks. Awesome work!

    I think you should finish Cream before doing any others.. although, I would love to see Ray.

    Cream should be next. And Ray to be considered would be cool.

    Although... it'd be great to have a 1.3 version of Vector of him climbing walls now, and an Espio hack, but I bet porting his wall+ceiling running is very tough.


    I love E-122's work so far, and I always try to speedrun every character (even ones he did not port) in every level of Sonic 1 to see who comes on top.
    Naturally, I have to nerf Charmy a bit, by not flying above the visible screen, otherwise there's no contest.

    Usually Charmy, Tails, Vector are the best character, followed by Amy, Mighty and Knuckles. XD

    Sorry, my mistake. I don't know jack about rom-hacking, so I thought he looked at the Knuckles Chaotix codes and tried to make them work on Sonic 1.

    Should've used another word just in case. :P
    In any case, he does a remarkable job with these hacks, and they're my favorite. Sonic 1 has become my favorite Sonic game just because of all the variety E-122 is providing with them.
    I hope one day he will find a way to fit all of these characters in Sonic 3 & Knuckles (or seperately). I'll build a shrine in his honor in my room.

If anyhing a compilation of all these characters in a single rom would be awesome, now if it was done in Megamix it would be the closest to my idea of the perfect 2-D Sonic game (or a new one with levels designed to showcase their abilities, like sections where walljumping can be more effective than wall climbing (mainly for Mighty), underweater sections where Vector would be the best option or sections with lots of platforming and springs that are more appropiate for Amy as well as a higher ammount of enemies for her to smash. Even Charmy could have sections designed exclusively for his unique flight mechanic.

    You gotta admit, Megamix Mighty with wall kick would be pretty awesome.

    I wouldn't mind seeing Blaze or Amy in there. The game cast is a bit of a sausage fest.

    I still think that a rom should be made, even if only as proof-of-concept, with as many characters as possible. Hell, remove all levels and fill the space with other characters. I know it's way over the league of many here, but it could at least serve as a guideline on how should characters behave in 2D- E-122 basically wrote the book on Sally, for an example.

But how many of them offer a real different experience (especially when some like Tails feel too similar to Sonic, being kind off redundant and barely offering anything unique other than an ability that kills off platforming)? Frankly E-122's Advance 1 style Amy would be awesome to have there as well as Charmy since they bring actual variety with more unique and original gameplay styles. Also since when have multiple playable 2-D characters have hurted gameplay? Perhaps that happens in the 3-D games due to alt. gameplay that barely resemble the speedy-platforming style of a Sonic game but as far as I know not a single 2-D Sonic game has ever suffered due to having too many characters.

    You've clearly never gotten Heavy from the Combi-Catcher.

    S3&K > S3 > S2, so S1M w/ 5 characters < S1M with more than 5.

    I can confirm that there is a Ray in S1 hack, I'm sure I downloaded it off the wiki around 2008. You could try hacking cult, it might be there.

    I remember Ray being able to glide. The sprites weren't that great as they seemed to be ripped directly from SegaSonic Arcade.

    Ray's also in Sonic 1 With Fries, hope they keep working on it, especially with the new sprites they previewed.

    It's nearly all done aside from the aforementioned wall ceiling grip which I'll need to do some research on.

    A S1 Vector revision with wall climb is definitely intended though like Espio I'll have to learn how to implement it first.

    Cream is planned but the sheet still needs to be done.

    That's the basic idea for all these character hacks proof in concept to show how they could potentially work in a 2D classic game.

    Sally still isn't done though, we're working on a projectile move to put a real twist to her gameplay. I really want to show all the potential she could have in a game.

    This. I'd love to do Gamma but his mechanics are way beyond what I know, as are Big's. If they were to get their own project it would HAVE to be done well so I'm not touching them till I can program them to their full potential.

    Sorry for my lengthy absense by the way, my laptop broke so I was offline for a few weeks. It gave me some time to work on sprites though.
