Where did you learn about the cheat codes for the first time?

The first Sonic cheat codes I ever laid eyes on were in a book I purchased through my elementary school's participation in the Scholastic Book program. It came out in 1994 and featured a wide variety of hints, tricks, and cheats for all kinds of Genesis games. I've kept it all these years; unfortunately it (along with my original Genesis) is currently at my girlfriend's house and I can't for the life of me remember the name of it.

 

for the first time? contra or rygar on the nes :o...way way back.. but later on

cartridge swapping:
loading up a game, waiting for the sega logo, pull out cart, pop in another one.

this would often tweak the second games properties mostly giving unltd. lives or invincibility.
then try and find the debug code that gave same properties.
it was argued that it was dubug code left over or random accident. I always thought left over debug info.

so we'd do that with every game at the time (1989), sms and genesis.
