In an attempt to reroute the conversation from this stream of embarrassment, I'm curious how this game will be packaged. Will there be a launcher that allows you to select which game you're playing (since they're very, very likely separate engines) or will there be a Bowser's Fury-style in-game menu?

I do hope they'll skip over the faffing about on whether or not Shadow is the real Shadow or not. What a pointless thread that was. Two entire games of "BUT IS HE REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEALLY SHADOW???" and then the big reveal is in some mode that about 0.5% of the unfortunate souls who purchased Shadow the Hedgehog ever actually saw. Obviously he's the real Shadow. They're not going to kill off Vegeta for some mild intrigue.

I'm not sure if there's any truth to the "Shadow really was going to stay dead at one point" thing, but I wonder if they ever really considered Shadow being a copy of the original or if it was always nonsense. That'd be a fairly interesting characterization path. Shadow's morals are built on memories that might not even be his, and he's torn between his compulsion to follow them and the disgust (or hopelessness) of being only a copy of that person. That'd give him a reason to be a brooding edgelord. Of course you end it with, "It doesn't matter who you are, you're my friend!" and everyone eats cake and opens presents, the end.

A launcher wouldn't really work outside of PC so it's either a menu or two separate games. Considering it's being handled internally I'm really hoping it's the former, can't imagine packaging a HE2 wrapper around two Hedgehog Engine games would be that much effort.

There'a also a few issues of Sonic Universe that were published in Brazil by Auto Astral. So yeah, they definitely got outside the U.S and Canada, people just didn't care

    Briefly Addressing this Post/Discussion:
I'll just briefly clarify my stance here so discussion can get back to the actual game this thread is about.

I'll admit I was being a bit glib when I just used the blanket term "Comic Haters", but I was specifically referring to people who continue to claim comics are not canon, despite the fact that they are.

You don't seem to disagree with me regarding the fact that the comics are canon, you are just of the position that the comics shouldn't be canon because you think it's bad for the health of the franchise... I disagree, but that's not what my post was about, and you're welcome to have that opinion.

    Regarding Sonic X Shadow Generations:

On consoles this all makes sense, on PC it's a bit of a mess.

A little disappointed Generations has no notable visual improvements. Since I'm a PC player, I don't really want to buy Generations again unless it looks/controls/plays markedly better.

I kinda wish they'd just sell Shadow Generations as a standalone on PC, or at-least give a discount to people who already own Generations. I think the Shadow stuff will only be an hour long tops, and that doesn't seem worth what I'm expecting to be a $60 price tag... but I have the Sonic Fan Sickness, so as long as it's not married to a service like Netflix or Apple Arcade, I have to buy it.:flunked:

*shrugs* Can only speak for my own experience, I've never seen them outside of an import specialist. Fair enough.

Oh, so it's just Europe that's treated as an afterthought, Japan gets some care despite having a far smaller fanbase? Arguably that's even more annoying.

Even in USA it doesn't make sense to default to the US soundtrack IMO, considering that most players' first experience with Sonic CD nowadays was the Taxman remaster, and that used the Japanese soundtrack by default.

Not to mention that they almost always remix the JP soundtrack in stuff like Generations and Mania. Sonic Forces is the weird exception, but outside of that the only US soundtrack song to consistently reappear as a representation of the Sonic series is Sonic Boom. Otherwise, they almost always default to the jp soundtrack.

I'm not complaining, the US CD OST is superior to the Japanese CD OST

Mania and Forces are both actually the exception, in that the former only remixes the JP soundtrack, and the latter only remixes the US. (Although given how close together they were, I guess you could see them as balancing each other out.)

CD 2011 and all of its ports and derivatives feature both soundtracks, but defaults to JP. Generations follows suit: The JP soundtrack is used by default for the Metal Sonic fight, but this remix of Stardust Speedway Bad Future (US) is among the bonus tracks and perfectly suited for anyone who prefers that one.

Not to mention Sonic Symphony's CD suite is only the Japanese tracks.

  15. I never get why people get so worked up for SONIC over a story myself. I never cared or played any Sonic game for a story.
I'm really looking forward to this as Generations was a brilliant game to begin with and the graphics in the new Shadow section look so good and really pushing the HedgeHog engine.

I would still love SA2 if it had a simplistic plot, but I adore it because of the batshit insane aspects and giant lizard final boss. It's like a spice really.

  17. When you're a dumb 10 year old, seeing two Super Saiyans fighting in space to rock music is the coolest shit ever.

  18. I didn't care for the stories in both Sonic Adv 1 or 2 myself. I didn't like how Sonic 2 ditched the adventure hub and also made you play as other characters, which broke the flow of the game for me, at least in Sonic Adv playing as the other characters was optional after you finished the main Sonic part. I did like the Sonic and Shadow levels in the game mind

I like Sonic as a brand/character more than as a game, so I want to see him and his stupid friends having cool adventures. The art style in the early games is also so pretty, that I can't help but want to see that world being explored as something more than just a bunch of levels in the fun videogame.

I still like games tho, so I'm totally fine with Generations (& others) having basically no story, it actually bothers me more that they insist on wasting their time animating a bunch of cutscenes where literally nothing happens, but that's another conversation entirely
