So, is the hack cancelled because Tweakers not on the project? The wiki page says it is, but Tweaker, and that other guy that just quit were part of a team.

That said, an official consensus has been reached:

Sonic 1 Megamix is officially discontinued.

We have chosen to release the work we have. The game has had many changes, including a port to the Sega CD by Stealth. There is one ISO for each region, and the game should work perfectly on hardware, with a few exceptions; a few Knuckles sections will crash the system, and the pitch adjustment in the sound test doesn't work on hardware either. However, BRAM is fully functional, among other things. This is nowhere near what an ideal final release would be like, but there's really nothing more to be said. The game is in a playable state, although it is stressed that this is by no means in an ideal state for a full release. There were many things we had planned but could not achieve, and these things will never be achieved.

No, the hack will not become open source. No, it will not be passed onto anyone. No, it will not be continued at a later point in time. Being a final release, bug reports are utterly useless, as are any suggestions. What you see is what you get, and hopefully you can enjoy it for what it is. I wish I could say that Team Megamix was something great and unrivaled; a team that set a precedent in the community when it came to team hacks. Unfortunately, it collapsed like all the rest, and I'm not proud of that. Hopefully you can see this for what it is and enjoy it nonetheless.

It was a wonderful experience to work on this game. It had its ups and downs, but I offer the utmost gratitude towards all the team members who stuck through when things got rough, and all the people who have ever seriously supported this project. Stress is not always easy to deal with it, but the sincere people who didn't suck up, who didn't demand anything, and who weren't complete tools—all your words are sincerely appreciated. I hope it doesn't seem like we've disappointed you, but we've certainly tried our best.

It's nobody's fault specifically that Team Megamix didn't work out; I'd say that it was a collaborative effort, like all things in this project. :P I have to thank Stealth especially for sticking with things as long as he has... I know we don't always get along, but hopefully we can break off this alliance on good terms. It's probably wishful thinking, but it's worth a shot.

And that's that, folks. The end of a legacy. I wish better luck to the rest of you. Sonic 1 Megamix beckons you for download links.

Well, I joined in on the drama earlier as I always get into that stuff. It's my nature.. In any case, I do hope you start another projects of sorts in the future since you did manage to pull of a good job on this one.

I'd like to express my thanks to Team Megamix for the piece of art they created. While I am sad to see Megamix go, I respect your decision to do what you please with your work.

Megamix is a legendary project. It showed that you can do anything if you put your mind to it. For fucks sake, this used to be Sonic 1.

I donated a Sega CD to this cause (and a 2nd broken one) and I have no regrets in doing so.

Thank you, Team Megamix. You've made a great thing and made the internet a better place.

I am going to play the whole game in one sitting, and upload it to youtube to show team megamix's hard work, because I can't do anything else worthwhile to show my graditude to these awesome hackers.

If I was a woman I would give you boob pix, but I'm a man, and I don't think you want cock pix.

Given all of this, will the leaked version also show up on the wiki?

Ah well, I guess that's officially the end of that, then. It may not be the final version anyone was possibly expecting, but congrats on the finished product. I still can't wait to see what all of you come up with next, whether it be solo projects or another joint effort. And now, I can finally say what I wanted to when the "drama" was occurring...

MM2 Dr. Wily music FTW. I started laughing as soon as I found it in that awesome new soundtest. XD Great job! :) This hack is still one of, if not the best.

EDIT: Also, if I may ask, what's the difference between region versions? I notice in the "leak", Misty Maze had no ripple effect, but Labyrinth Zone still does...

Why would it? This has nothing to do with the leak.

Never said it did, but it's rather odd now that the most recent version has been put up that some WIP builds wouldn't be, at least to chart the progress. Also because good Sega CD emulators don't support savestates. I <3 savestates.

Why do you need savestates for Megamix? :U

Anybody going to make a list of all the songs in the sound test? I know there are some songs like in Misty Maze even since awhile back that I still don't know the origin of(besides the Ristar theme). Particularly, what the heck is sound 98. Sounds like it's not meant for a Sonic game =P

  19. Dunno if you'd consider Gens Movie 10a to be a good Sega CD emulator, but it at least has savestate support.

    EDIT:
Agree 100% - the way it ended was unfortunate, but the work Team Megamix did was absolutely stellar and deserves extreme commendation.

All ass kissing aside and in complete sincerity:

This is one of the best games I have ever played. Phenomenal. Incredible.

I shudder to think that this is not representative of the complete vision of this game. Hats off to absolutely everyone involved, and thank you for releasing your work publicly.

I mean seriously, for fucks sake, you made Marble Zone FUN
