I don't know if it's been mentioned yet but I just get a very Sonic CD feel from the song YYZ by Rush. I don't know if there are any reasons but every time I listen to the song I feel like I'm quickly playing through Sonic CD :P
Off-topic, I was bored, so I made this: Together Forever (Sonic 3 Drums) Together Forever (Sonic 1/2 Drums) Whenever You Need Somebody It's Together Forever by Rick Astley using the ultimate megadrive soundfont (demo midi)
http://youtubedoubler.com/?video1=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DqI-Takf76RY&start1=45&video2=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D8YUbGhpR5OM&start2=6&authorName=Jae Just noticed this when listening to Tidal Tempest Bad Future the other day; the part in Reptile's movie theme starting around about 45 seconds sorta matches the part of Tidal Tempest BF starting around 6 seconds. This is an odd case because CD predates the first MK movie.
Same with Streets of Rage 3 - Percussion. As someone has said in that video's comment, it's probably inspired by the Peter Gunn theme.
Oh wow! and to help drive the point you're making home, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4fuhCZRMqI&feature=related#t=0m54s ...from Twinkle Circuit of Twinkle Park, as it's synth as well. That's a really neat find Black Squirrel. Kills me that we'll probably never know whether that was intentional or not. Perhaps we could shoot Jun Senoue a link and question over Facebook sometime. Also, Neon at the SSMB pointed this one out. The Beatles - Money Tropical Resort Zone Act 1
I chalk up Twinkle Circuit to just sneaking in It Doesn't Matter as a neat little cameo. The fact that it and the Quartet tune are both done on synth is hardly anything to write home about. Like how SA2's Event 1/"Let's Make It" is a nice little arrangement of SA2's It Doesn't Matter. But comparing It Doesn't Matter in general to the Quartet tune? Yes, that's intriguing; Very nice find! On "Money" and Tropical Resort: Meh, just a common riff. Amusing though.
Yeah. I was just throwing it out there, since I personally have a hard time relating vocals to synths (It took me forever to finally understand the Classic City Escape/Endless Mine thing in Generations, for example). It was just in case anyone else has that issue, not so much a "Oh hey, It Doesn't Matter is in Twinkle circuit" post. :v:
I have the opposite problem. I ALWAYS associate lyrics to musical notes. In fact I'll hear the notes before I ever understand what the actual words are. I think that leads to why I initially hated the music for Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 (2 even MORE) because of certain lyrics that were intentionally not musical.
Compare the drums at 2:16 in this song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dr_zDCjphF0 To the drums at the beginning of this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6ektyERQ1E
That's a stretch, they're both tribal african beats. I don't think it's actually possible to write something african ethnic sounding which doesn't resemble those :|
This isn't just me right? Check the bass in the latter from :49 onwards, and compare to Classic Sky Sanctuary. It's not so much that they're exactly similar, but there are some slight similarities in sound. To me this is just more of a neat coincidence than anything. If you want a specific example of what I'm hearing, check :08 of Classic Sky Sanctuary vs. 1:00 of Message From Nightopia.
The funny thing is that I heard the slight similarity with the pitch bent bass in Sky Sanctuary Classic and was wondering where I heard it before. You just answered my question I also realized how dissimmilar they also sound from one another in a sense. The SS version has a more "open" sound...I forget the terminology used in music composition software,
So now, it has been a year and two days of me being on Sonic Retro; To be honest, I love the site, Sonic is at his finest here, the people on the forums are friendly; Sonic Retro is a seriously great group to be a part of, I thank you for giving myself the chance to be on here (even though it was only 020 posts), and I hope that I may experience more of this site in the future. As a parting gift, here is a music mashup that I did; It is Puresound's City of Hate mixed with Tomoya Ohtani's Aquarium Park Act 01. http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=CA&hl=en&client=mv-google&v=nDGNX21E2Aw Anyhoo, toodles.
This isn't a full song comparison, but... Monster Truck Madness 64, 1:32 in Viewtiful Joe Power-Up Shop, 0:20 in Sonic Heroes Power Plant, 0:16 in What am I hearing? I don't know if this is a sample, or what it's a sample of, but it crops up every now and then in songs and it drives me nuts not knowing the source.
I went through the thread to see if it's been mentioned before and it seems that it hasn't, so... Sonic '06 - Egg Wyvern Phantasy Star Online - 'IDOLA' have the immortal feather Me horribly mashing the two together Given that Sonic Team worked on both games, I don't consider this merely a coincidence.
So with that sampling site pointing the original song I saw the sentence that makes the lyrics for back to back comes from "The Haunted house of Rock" - "spinning on the turntables back to back", so the samples are ingame like this:> is - pinning -on the - turn -tables - back - to - back. With that in mind, I put it's sequence file and the soundbank on a midi player and separated the channels so we can finally have the official lyrics! Back to Back, spinning on the back Back to Back on the turntables back Back to Back, spinning on the back Back to Back, on the back to back Back to Back, spinning on the back Back to Back on the turntables back Pinning on the turn, spinning on the turntables back, to, back [start of the loop] Hey Hey Hey Hey Is Back to Back, Hey Back to Back, Hey On the Back to Back, Hey Back to Back, Hey Is Back to Back, Hey Back to Back, Hey Spinning on the turn, spinning on the turntables back, to, back, Hey Spinning on the back On the turntables back Spinning on the back On the turntables back Spinning on the back On the back, On thepinning on the back On the back, spinning on the back Turntables back, turn, spinning on the turn Spinning is Back to Back, Hey Back to Back, Hey on the Back to Back, Hey Back to Back, Hey Is Back to Back, Hey Back to Back, Hey Spinning on the turn, spinning on the turntables, on the back to back Back to Back, spinning on the back Back to Back on the turntables back Back to Back, spinning on the back Back to Back, on the back to back Back to Back, spinning on the back Back to Back on the turntables back Pinning on the turn, spinning on the turntables back, to, back, Hey [end of the loop] It has to be said that because of the person pronountiation the "on the" can really be taken as "only" specially with their sounds sped up, but I'm just putting how the samples are played and not how the song has more sense xD. Also, tables is more sped up than turn so tables is very difficult to hear, but if you put it on an aundio editor and make it play at half speed you can tell it's tables. I hope we can get all lyrics from all songs!
Not sure if this has been mentioned before but listening to the Knuckles Chaotix soundtrack and the song "Child's song" reminded me of something else. this at 0:04 reminded me of this at 0:17. I'm not sure if this is a common clown-esque music piece or a complete coincidence.
