I finally finished the ingame map showing the layout of South Island and the zone locations: It doesn't really follow any canon world layouts, but I'm not really shooting for 100% canon here.
So far I've spotted Ice Cap (Very obvious up top), Spring Yard, Star Light, and Carnival Zones (All in a neat row, Star Light connects Spring yard and Carnival), Oil Ocean and Wing Fortress Zones (Oil Ocean on the south end of the map, Wing Fortress up top), and Sandopolis and Hill Top Zones right next to each other. As for not-so-obvious zones, the Death Egg seems to be poking it's head out of the water between Angel Island and what might be the first level from Sonic Advance. I can't find Scrap Brain, though. On the flipside, I'm pretty sure nobody wants to hear me yammer about zone selection, so I'll go into detail about the map design instead. I like what you did with the compass rose, using the traditional Sonic star bumper as a centerpiece. I also like the way you used the Sonic 2 text for the map's main name and as for the subtitle text, it's familiar, but I can't place which game it's from. Oh well. Nice job with the map, and I hope to see the dystopian version soon.
Fantastic work! Looks all hand-done and everything. I guess you could make the roads a little darker and more noticeable, but other than that, I like the style and detail.
Looking good, man. I can't wait to hear more about the story and see a trailer or something. But at your leisure, of course. No need to string us along with frequent updates or anything.
Very nice sprite work on those maps. Haha, just noticed Robotniks lair from that one cartoon at the top corner.
Here's kind of what I managed to recognize so far... (noticing the lack of lava; what I thought I recognized as Hill Top might actually also be Aquatic Ruin perhaps?)
hey, sega released chemical plant screenshots? ME TOO Someday I'll have more to show for this than just map screenshots :/
Those Chemical Plant screenshots are sexual. I am loving how well you're doing with showing it in a different perspective, especially on those tubes in the lower right screenshot. Great job, R.
So this is what's been happening with this thing for the past month: NPC SPRITES Here's a couple: Got like 60 sets done, and a ton more still to do; I'm basically designing a hundred or so fancharacters here. Coming up with a bunch of different species is hard.
Also, I'm going to add character portraits in, too. Not 100% sure how I'm going to do them yet: I might even have to find someone to contract them out to. But for now, yay I did something majorish! Now, to tackle THE BATTLE SYSTEM. Urk.
SOrry about the double post, but I've been toying with the character portraits and I'm not really liking where they're going, so I thought I'd get opinions from you guys on Retro. It's a tiny bit off model, not expressive enough, and too small IMO, but I need a few extra sets of eyes.
Sonic's eyes are right in the DERP range to me. A little closer together. Otherwise very nice! Love the direction of this project.
The art make me remember someway the game Habbo, I like it. PS: The first set of sprites makes me remember doraemon :P
Fairly sure it's meant to look like Earthbound. (also why'd you link the big, big image again whyyyyy)
sonic has a posse I finally tracked down this caterpillar party script I used to have and lost. HOORAY This post also doubles as a look into the main party: there'll be a few extra party members you can get through sidequests and stuff with different special abilities and that, but this is your default crew.
